video! because is there really another option we can use isn't txt disabled
In the interest of mine own ongoing entertainment, I have an offer to make to my new fellow Adventurers.
[Hey it's a new guy! And he holds up.. well it looks kind of like a smart cellphone if you squint really hard, but it definitely isn't.]
This is a hunt book, as designed and manufactured by ancient Allag. Upon being activated it tells me of any interesting creatures or beings that are about that may prove a diverting challenge to subdue, ranked by calculated difficulty and risk it poses to the local populations. While we are far from any guild which may reward any such hunts, should a mark appear I am willing to bring any interested in testing their mettle against it.
[Some people just really like hunting, ok? The device is put away.]
However there are ... restrictions. Should it offer up a mark that is exceptionally rare or vital to its ecosystem, alternates to slaying it are required; become creative with how you choose to subdue such a target without inflicting significant harm. If a slain mark is edible, it must be eaten, and as it seems this train has food storage room this should be a welcome addition to otherwise unappealing meals. I will not have waste for mere trophies and tales around a dinner table.
[Zenos makes a small gesture with one hand.]
I am to understand some of you have little battle beasts of your own. These are certainly welcome, but be mindful of your prey. Nature has little interest in rules and regulations. This is not a safe activity, and I expect those who wish to attend to be able to hold their own within reason.

And my primary weapon leaves a li'l' hole through stuff. Like three to five inches or so, all cauterized. So small game I just vaporize. I do better with big game or big game that has some smaller shit to defend it. Whips or projectiles an' the like.

[Lasers did that, so did superheated metal. Knowing where and how to apply a weapon meant knowing what the weapon was.]

Useful but the bigger it is the less likely I am to do damage what'd decrease the salvage value. [And salvage value is pretty damn important in his eyes.] Or if it has some kinda defense system what needs pickin' off.

Indeed, skills honed are skills wasted if not put to use. It is good to hear there are those putting such effort into their abilities.

You might be pleasantly surprised to know most of the folks on the train, the ones what don't come with the skills built in, usually train like hell and have spent a solid section of their lives learnin' a specific skill set.
Sure is a joy to see folks in action, or what they can produce. I'm pretty sure you could grab any six to eight crew of any age or moral disposition and pull a full job off any kinda job successfully. It's a wonder to behold.

[So far the guy just seems like he likes a challenge and dislikes wastefulness.] Apparently accordin' to the train we was picked based on capability. Though I couldn't figure out nothin' more than that.

[They do try to keep track of information but the changeover is offensively dramatic.]
Not to mention we got a host of people that got no desire to go on missions at all, no matter their skillset.

So I ain't judgin'. I know what it's like when a mightier power makes ya do things you don't want. [They wanna say 'to hell with it'? He'll let 'em. He's relying on that himself should there ever be a mission that chafes his own morals, especially now that he's in a position where he can't lie his way out of a job like he's using brutal logic.]

Not all contributions need arise in bloodshed and violence. Even a line order cook or an engineer or a medic is vital, save in different manners.
[He doesn't mind if people don't want to or can't fight, but if they're completely useless... that's another matter entirely.]

[He shrugs in that, 'they do them' sort of way. He figures there's a reason for them still around, if there's a reason for all of them being around. Which seems to be the case.]
