Never have I ever made a fool of myself [video, nebula 17]

What's up, party people?

[ And here's a cheerful wave from a man in orange, seated in his room with a mug of...something. ]

If we haven't met yet, my name's Jake. Jake Peralta, your clues guy. I'm down to poke things with sticks and solve mysteries! Sooner we figure out what the train's entire deal is, where we're going and all that, the better, right? But in the meantime, I thought it'd be fun to get to know my new squad!

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone would be down to play a little Earth game called Never Have I Ever. How it works is you say something totally cool, or weird, or boring that you haven't done. And anybody who has done it has to take a drink. Unfortunately, I'm as broke here as I was back home, so I can't supply the booze. And we should probably be setting a good example, right?

So just drink whatever you have! Be that water, juice, milk, coffee...or if you happen to have a proper adult beverage on you, go ahead and drink responsibly. You ready? Great, I'll start: never have I ever gone skydiving!

((ooc: it's a big mingle format! Go ahead and add new 'never have I ever' statements as new toplevels, and threadhop all you want.))

[In that case, he might as well be ancient. :p]

How does something manage to petrify an entire species in one go? Did it just hit planet Earth and all living things turned to stone?

[She does, however, offer a nod.]

School sucks. I dunno if it's worth losing everything else, but can't say I'd miss it either.

Hang on. How do you know the exact number of years if modern timekeeping devices fell into ruin?

It's a device right out of science fiction. Scientifically advanced from anything we'd know, but it does operate within scientific parameters. The device goes off and it petrifies all the humans. And the swallows, for some reason.

[ He hums a little bit. ]

I don't really consider the what if. It happened, so I just take things as they come.

[ He blinks a moment at the question. ]

I counted, of course.

A device? What, did you see it? How on earth did it specify only humans and swallows on a global scale? Were no other birds or mammals affected?

[Dairine was thinking more in terms of wizardry, which in her world is essentially advanced science. Just the kind that can bend some rules now and then. Still such a large scale project would be a beast to define the parameters, let alone power.]

I get what you mean. I was more talking about myself in that situation.

[She gives him a rather incredulous look.]

You're kidding.

We've found one of them, of course. We know sometime roughly two hundred years ago, it was used again, although on a much smaller scale. Fascinating, really. And none, far as we know, they've changed over the 3700 years, a little, without human interference.

[ He blinks a little bit. ]

No. How else would you know how long it had passed? I counted to 117,354,893,870. That was a few years ago now. I remained conscious while being trapped in stone.

[ He's fine. ]

Really?? How did it survive that long? Could you tell what kind of materials it was made of?

[Dairine was clearly trying to mentally dissect the process for such widespread chaos, a good distraction from the horror of all humanity getting possibly wiped out in one event.]

[She has, in fact, used counting to remain conscious before. However, that had been while facing off with a mind-controlling bug king, which took less than an hour tops.]

You forced yourself to be conscious for millennia? How'd you not get bored after the first, I dunno, billion counted?
