Never have I ever made a fool of myself [video, nebula 17]

What's up, party people?

[ And here's a cheerful wave from a man in orange, seated in his room with a mug of...something. ]

If we haven't met yet, my name's Jake. Jake Peralta, your clues guy. I'm down to poke things with sticks and solve mysteries! Sooner we figure out what the train's entire deal is, where we're going and all that, the better, right? But in the meantime, I thought it'd be fun to get to know my new squad!

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone would be down to play a little Earth game called Never Have I Ever. How it works is you say something totally cool, or weird, or boring that you haven't done. And anybody who has done it has to take a drink. Unfortunately, I'm as broke here as I was back home, so I can't supply the booze. And we should probably be setting a good example, right?

So just drink whatever you have! Be that water, juice, milk, coffee...or if you happen to have a proper adult beverage on you, go ahead and drink responsibly. You ready? Great, I'll start: never have I ever gone skydiving!

((ooc: it's a big mingle format! Go ahead and add new 'never have I ever' statements as new toplevels, and threadhop all you want.))

Cultivation? [Yes, he really has been on this train for this long without learning about cultivation. Somehow. Possibly because he's been so wrapped up in his white-robed man, the one who wears his spiritual devotion as paper around his shoulders instead of as a headband.] I'm going to hazard a guess that you're not talking about agriculture?

[ Lan Wangji doesn't laugh, but his lips quirk and that is as good as. ]

No. I am not talking about agriculture.
Cultivation is a spiritual and physical practise, akin to martial arts. It is practised with the aim of seeking spiritual enlightenment and immortality. It is not frequently that successful, but you can gain impressive power by doing it.

[Ah. Magic stuff. He's been on the train long enough though, that he knows not all magic stuff is created equal-- or even seen as such across the various worlds, like Trunks' insistence that the chi-based abilities possessed by himself and his father aren't magic. So he doesn't just say 'Ah, magic stuff'.

In fact, speaking of chi, or qi or ki or--]
Is it a chi-based practice? There seem to be a lot of variations on that sort of thing across the multiverse.

Hm.
[ Wangji nods, thinking about it. ]
You could say that, yes. It is the same energy, different people call it different names. How many others have you come into contact with aboard?
[ He looks very interested at the multiverse comment. ]
Do you use chi at all?

I can think of three or four realities just off the top of my head that use chi or something like it to superhuman effect. [He starts to list names off on his fingers.] Koumyou Sanzo, Trunks and his father Vegeta, Cassie-- although she learned her abilities from Trunks, so that might not count. [He continues on, listing a couple of others that the mun cannot remember off the top of her head, gomen before he lets his hand drop out of the picture again.

The last question makes him shrug and-- fidget a little?]
Not yet. I come from a tech reality, not a magic one. But I'm learning.

...Slowly.

Seems to be a common theme then. [ He thinks on it. ] Perhaps the train only takes those who have something to offer it? That would explain the sheer variety of people on board.

[ The list of names is a little daunting, he hasn't met most of these people or even seen them to know who they are. ] Hm, I will keep that in mind.

[ The fidgeting is noted and considered a little confusing. What is there to hide about using chi? There were more people who didn't than did for most of his life. ]
Perhaps we can trade lessons, I can help you with magic, if you can help me with technology. [ Almost on cue the image wobbles a little. ] I find it doesn't respond very well to me.

It takes heroes. [He says it so simply. He glances to the side at something off-screen, then leans in real close to the ICP to admit with drunken forthrightness:] I'm still not sure why it took me if that's a criterion, but that's what it told us.

[He covers his mouth to hide a smile when the video corrupts for that moment so exquisitely timed. He glances off-screen again for an instant longer this time, then looks back with a smile.]

I'd be happy to take you up on that offer. I have a suspicion it'll respond better once you understand some of the basics.

Heroes? [ Wangji is visibly taken aback. He does not think that is the case unless there are some very divergent time lines out there, but who knows. Perhaps he's right. He casts that aside for the far more interesting tidbit; ] When did it speak to you? I was under the impression it never communicated.

[ Wangji does his trademark almost smile back. ]

I will do what I can. I knew some things but I do not know how relevant they are any more. I did not have such a problem until electricity became so prevalent in devices.
