What's up, party people?

[ And here's a cheerful wave from a man in orange, seated in his room with a mug of...something. ]

If we haven't met yet, my name's Jake. Jake Peralta, your clues guy. I'm down to poke things with sticks and solve mysteries! Sooner we figure out what the train's entire deal is, where we're going and all that, the better, right? But in the meantime, I thought it'd be fun to get to know my new squad!

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone would be down to play a little Earth game called Never Have I Ever. How it works is you say something totally cool, or weird, or boring that you haven't done. And anybody who has done it has to take a drink. Unfortunately, I'm as broke here as I was back home, so I can't supply the booze. And we should probably be setting a good example, right?

So just drink whatever you have! Be that water, juice, milk, coffee...or if you happen to have a proper adult beverage on you, go ahead and drink responsibly. You ready? Great, I'll start: never have I ever gone skydiving!

( look at his tailtip do a perfect curl back the opposite direction to once more form that little u-hook. )

You're staring at my tail, aren't you?

( jingyi is grinning in an amused way, tapping a finger against his tea mug. )

...Yes. [He grins sheepishly.] Sorry. I've never seen it up close.

[He's probably noticed it in passing, but there are a lot of folks with inhuman features on the train. Aggressively human Devero has a bad habit of kind of blocking them out mentally unless he knows the person personally.]

( to a degree, they're living like friendly strangers, because they all end up in their routines and passing each other by, but not necessarily knowing or noticing much in particulars until something brings around the opportunity or the drive for it. like this; jingyi doesn't think it odd, just as he won't think it odd if someone on train hasn't seen him in (train tiny) dragon form. or larger dragon form; though he did take that on each platform to date. )

It's even more impressive in person.

( note, he doesn't sound flirtatious: this is stated as a fact. HIS TAIL IS AWESOME. thank you for coming to his ted talk. )

I notice a few of us have tails here, but I think I'm the only one with a full time dragon tail. There's a few feline ones? Thinner, but more flexible for the full length I'd think... they can't possibly have the same muscle structure to deal with.

[That's really exactly it, isn't it? Devero knows someone on the train can summon or turn into a dragon, since he has seen the beast on platforms, but he sure hasn't connected that dragon to any specific passenger. He hasn't yet had the opportunity.

He laughs, apparently delighted by the confidence. And interested! He leans closer to the screen.] Is it prehensile? You seem to have pretty fine motor control over it....

( Give him a moment to blink, then cant his head to the side, horns and all, trying to make sense of that word. )

I can hold some things with it, but I honestly have even better control in full dragon form. Human spines have some limitations dragon spines don't, though... what exactly do you mean by prehensile?

I-- I mean 'can you hold things with it'. [Sometimes he forgets that the broad technical vocabulary he takes for granted is not shared by everyone he talks to. Yes, even after being on the train for this long.]

'Full dragon form'... Wait, is that big dragon that keeps showing up at the platforms you, then?

Oh! Uh, sure, I can, but I wouldn't write with my tail, not that kind of grip in this form. I can hold things up, wrap around my legs or someone else, prop someone up with it, or drag things along with a grip by my tail, but that'd be less efficient than just using my hands.

( One which he lifts and waggles his fingers at the camera with: look, behold his very human hand! Be awed, fellow humanoid! )

Oh yeah, that's definitely me. White scaled, blue fur around the head and down the spine to the tail? I take every chance to fly full form that I can, when I'm on train I can only take on a two-year old's form.

( how literal is this. not terribly, but it is what he feels like, being forced to be so small instead of his length comparable to a full coach. )

That must be so useful. [Someone sounds wistful.] Believe me, there've been times in the shop where having an extra limb just to prop something up or hold it in place would have been real-- handy.

[WINK. Punning aside, though, he means it.

He nods, confirming the description, a smile on his face.] You're gorgeous like that. What do you mean by a two-year old's form?

[jingyeets]

( He grimaces at the question, holding up his hands. )

I go from being all that gorgeous form to this much of it. Which is a small child's form of dragon, okay! The train literally shoves me down into child sized dragon form.

( He looks so put out by this. He would demonstrate, but it didn't occur to him to do so at the moment. )

[Nor does it occur to Devero to ask for a demonstration. He does grimace expressively though.] This fuckin' train, I swear. Screwing around with your dragon form, won't let me have my hardware self-- it's such bullshit!
