If we haven't met yet, my name's Jake. Jake Peralta, your clues guy. I'm down to poke things with sticks and solve mysteries! Sooner we figure out what the train's entire deal is, where we're going and all that, the better, right? But in the meantime, I thought it'd be fun to get to know my new squad!

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone would be down to play a little Earth game called Never Have I Ever. How it works is you say something totally cool, or weird, or boring that you haven't done. And anybody who has done it has to take a drink. Unfortunately, I'm as broke here as I was back home, so I can't supply the booze. And we should probably be setting a good example, right?

So just drink whatever you have! Be that water, juice, milk, coffee...or if you happen to have a proper adult beverage on you, go ahead and drink responsibly. You ready? Great, I'll start: never have I ever gone skydiving!

I guess I'd be worried about bending or breaking a sword, but magic. Or... the equivalent.

... I mean I guess if you had a flexible sword, but you do know swords cut through bodies, right? They shouldn't break under the weight of a good stance...

I guess. I've never used a sword or even really held one. Minato's the one who uses swords in my group.

There's a whole variety in swords, too. Just on train I've run into... has to be at least a dozen different styles, between watching people going through sword forms or sparring or whatever it is.

Are you trained in any other kind of weaponry?

Yeah. I used to make makeshift spears to fight off monsters before I met up with my group, and then I got a proper spear.

I haven't really been trained, but I can use it well enough to take on much bigger foes.

Formal training helps, but training by doing means you'll have your own style... how'd it come about that you and your group started fighting monsters together? Are there no trained teams to handle them, or do they not cover your territory?

There's another team that fights them, but they're backed by some really bad people.

There's a hidden hour of the night that only certain people with the potential for the ability I have can be awake during. The monsters come out then.

Ah, that's weirdly specific, which makes it even more believable... ugh, monsters. Why are they so good at finding creative ways to be horrible?

I don't know. They're really annoying. I wish we just had the extra hour at night... since electronics don't work it's easy to move around unseen by cameras.

Wait, remind me what cameras are?

( he says, fully serious, talking. on a camera. because that's what video is on an ICP. )

They're things that take pictures. Some are just still pictures, others can do video.

Huh. Sounds kind of fun. Pictures that you can keep or put up or something? Videos are the things that play in the movie carriage right?

Yeah, you can keep them. And videos play in the movie carriage - it's also how I'm seeing you now. You're on video since you're not really here in front of me, and I'm on video for you.

Aaaah right, I forget what words are for these things... we don't have anything like it back home. Or like the movie pictures. Or the karaoke music pictures.

Yeah, there's a lot of people here who don't have these kinds of things. I can't really blame you for not knowing the words.
