So... I didn't notice the exact date that it happened, but I feel like I should let everyone know, for the sake of not keeping secrets, that I'm apparently listed as having just turned twelve years old.

[ She's not surprised. Obviously, she's been getting older. Taller, among other signs of growing the past year she's been here. ]

I've been here a year and I wasn't even sure how to count my own age, so I suppose it was decided that this was a convenient way to count. I'm glad to... have been here, for the past year. For the longest period of time that I've ever been awake in my life, at least that I can remember. Even with all the people I've met that have left, even if everyone I know is changed out for new people... some of those new people will still be friends, it seems.

[ It's a strange feeling. It's a bit unsteady, to rotate parental figures in and out, but the fact that they actually care about her wellbeing in such a short time is so infinitely better than what she had back home that it's... fine. ]

I don't need a party, or gifts, but I won't fight anyone to get them not to, now that you all know that I'm a year older, either. I just wanted to say that I appreciate everyone... everything... even this train that we're all riding and trying to figure things out with. That's all.

Thank goodness I'm not the odd one out. I've never really known my birthday, even ignoring the different calendar here.

I... wouldn't say no to cake, if you feel like you want to.

I knew of mine because there were always lights every year on that day, but here it's completely different.

[Mostly because the months are werid.]

I would be happy to make a cake, more so if you have a favourite. It's been a while since I baked after all.

I don't even know when you'd mark the day I was 'born' off, given how I was born.

Vanilla cake is something everyone would like and are delicious. So I will try and make that and as big as I can. Maybe make a tier cake so that there is more cake.

I wasn't born from a... a womb, but a machine that was designed to incubate clones. If that's a complicated concept then you're right, it's... difficult to explain.

A lot of cake is a good idea though!

Mm. But it probably makes my birthdate more arbitrary, since they can keep me in longer than an infant in a mother's womb, for any number of reasons. ...and of course, I never had any of that... connection to a mother.

So it's a good thing there are some kind mothers here.

Well... the most... motherly woman I knew isn't here any more. Della has been doing her best to be there for me, and others, though.

I'm sorry to hear that, but hey you have people who are there for you and that is the most important thing I have learned. Having friends is good.

It's so much better than it could be. And I can remember and learn from everyone who leaves...

Exactly. As painful as that is, we can. Like for those that have left I have learned what real care is meant to be. Kinda of what a family can be like.
