Hey. I'm Shadow and new on blue team. So, from my experience, its better that I do stuff regularly. Keep engaged and all that.

So I'm gonna offer a few services.

One, food. It sounds like yer not strapped for getting enough, but there are limitations. I have an ability to make food, so I figure I'll hit up the kitchen everyday and add to the stores a bit. I can't do a ton, but like feed a few extra people's worth a day should be fine. As long as I'm not wiped out for some reason. Probably won't happen after missions. I'll do this shortly before the rainbow colors disappear.

I can also take special meal requests, or help with special diets that are hard to get what ya need. If those apply, find me in the kitchen, or the training gym before hand. I'll be there regularly. If there's no requests, I'll just add what looks good. Probably rarer items or perishables when its close to stock up time. I reserves the right to reject special requests if yer rude.

Two, I was on Diagad before arriving. And its with great debate I offer this, so I don't want to hear a lecture. I know dark magic. Which is not inherently evil, just a tool, just one that makes it real easy to do evil things. And I do know a spell for mind control. No, I'm not explaining the 'tragic backstory'. [Complete with air quotes] For why I know it. But if ya want to learn how to resist mind control, I can help test ya. Ya can bring a person to monitor me, or another mind reader, or check with my brother whose been here weeks for my character. I'm offering a service, I'm not forcing ya to take it, its up to ya to do what makes ya feel safe doing it.

Three, I guess I can also help people with dark magic. No, I'm not teaching the mind control thing.

Four, I know shadow magic. Yes, that's different from dark magic. This take special kind of affinity to go, so not everyone can learn this, but if ya want to try learning, I can see what I can do.

I'm also gonna hit up the fight club training listing, but I figure I'd throw out the weirder stuff now.

Okay, I see what you mean. Thanks for the explanation. Those magics from your world seem to work similarly to the ones I learned in mine.

I have some dark magic myself. I can create a vision and cast it as a spell, so that the person or people recieving it think it is real. In my world, I once used that ability for evil purposes, which I regret. But now on the Voidtrecker Express, I used that power once on a mission world, for the purpose of defeating the enemies of the people we had gone to that world to protect. And I use it in reverse now, in order to distinguish between reality and illusion, and sometimes to break the illusion and let the reality shine through.

I'd be interested in learning anything from that I can, in case it's something I don't already know. It might be interesting to have you test my abilty to resist mind control.

I'd have to see the vision thing in effect. Did ya break the illusion in a general area or for specific people?

The thing I can definitely do is stuff like offensive attack. Bursts of dark energy that usually burn out, but good with dealing with masses. Other stuff takes seeing what ya can do and what ya can handle.

I can definitely do the mind control thing. Ya should be able to use the illusion stuff to help bolster it. Depends how good ya are with yer own emotions.

I could demonstrate, if you want to meet me somewhere. I would simply create a vision and then radiate it all around me. You would see it if you were in the same train carriage with me. But as for breaking an illusion, I've only experimented with that, and only for myself. I haven't tried to break it for other people.

[ He listens to Shadow Link's description of his power. ] That makes sense to me, that you could aim dark energy at an opponent.

[ He nods. ] I'm pretty good with my own emotions. I learned how to deal with them as a part of creating a new life for myself. And yes, maybe I could use the illusion stuff to oppose an attempt to control my mind.

So, do you want to try some of this?

We can meet. The training gym carriage?

We could test that. Illusions aren't too hard and I can put a lot of power into keeping them stable.

Yeah. Its very useful when I've had to fight crowds. As long as ya don't overdo it, damage doesn't even linger.

That will help a lot. Especially if ya were bad and got better. Clear, complicated emotions can help form an anchor if ya can't just brute strength stubborn through it.

Yes, let's test that. I'd like to work with illusions and maybe with dark energy. And emotions, too. I didn't really do the anchoring thing while we were on the mission, and maybe I'd better figure out how.

I've only been tied to anchors, not been one, so better others for that. But emotional anchoring I know. Its actually one of the ways to fight mind control.

But illusions and basic blasts is a start.

[ Curufin waves and shuts off the ICP and then heads for the gym carriage. Once there, he'll set his rucksack down and lean against the wall, cheerfully watching the various people working out, and waiting for Shadow Link. ]

More than likely, yeah. Its easy enough, gives me a base to work off of.

[At least he doesn't have to wait long. He doesn't really have much else to do, and the training car is a great way to avoid Clef until he's ready to deal with him.]

[So he'll be entering the car, until he spots Curufin.]

Ya the guy with the illusions?

[ He doesn't have to wait at all. Curufin is still leaning against that wall with his arms folded and a smile on his face. ]

Yep. I'm the guy with the illusions. How do you want to start?

[He hums.]

Show me what ya can do. It gives me a baseline, see what's different, and what I can translate. Pretty used to doing that already.

[ Curufin nods. ] I'll make an image and then project it outwards. You'll almost certainly pick it up. I'll start with something harmless and beautiful.

[ He closes his eyes and breathes, and makes the image of a tree in his mind, a green tree in a field under a blue cloud-flecked sky, and then he radiates that image outward from his mind. Shadow Link should be able to see it. It'll appear to be in the Gym Carriage. ]

[Shadow moves closer, his eyes going a solid white, his foot stepping on Curufin's shadow as he watches the illusion come to life.]

[But he's looking deeper then that. He doesn't have a true magical sense, like ESP, but instead he looks at the world in a way others simply don't. He is a literal shadow, mixed with dark magic and the darkest part of the heart of his owner. And that is what he looks for. He looks for darkness and shadow, how it moves to create something in the world, how it might connect to the heart of its owner as he connects with Curufin's own shadow.]

[ Curufin is aware that Shadow Link can see the tree. But when he steps on Curufin's shadow and begins to look for darkness, Curufin is aware of that as well. He shivers slightly. His soul still contains much darkness, since in his own world he committed many crimes against his own people, and in fact he died in battle while committing the Second Kinslaying in Elvish history. Since then, he has striven to atone for all the evil, but his soul still looks like a drifting raincloud when the sun begins to emerge -- dark in the center although with silvery edges. Shadow Link may not have ESP, but he may be aware that the darkness in Curufin did move to create something in the world of Arda. But now the light in him strives to create something positive in the world of the train and its missions. ]

Can you. . . can you see the tree?

I can see the tree.

Got a quite of lot going on with the darkness, huh? Usually when it gets to this level, its the sort to leave marks on history.

Good. I'll devise some other visions, if you want me to?

And as for the darkness, yes, I have quite a bit of that in my soul. And I did leave some marks on history, more than once. Even though others were with me and were partly or largely responsible, I take full responsibility for my part in those dark events.

That's good. Denial and darkness hasn't historically gone well.

...how much do ya fear it?

[ He nods in emphatic agreement. ] That's for certain! Historically and personally. I didn't even begin to understand the darkness until I took responsibility for my deeds.

How much do I fear the darkness? I don't fear it anymore, except on rare occasions. I have learned to accept it as a part of myself, and strangely, that makes a big difference. It makes it far easier to manifest the light.

Excellent. That's the first and most important step. Ya can't hope to control part of yerself if ya aren't willing to accept it, ya know?

And interact with light. The next part hard part is getting how interconnected darkness and light really is.

[ Another emphatic nod. ] That's utterly true.

And what you say about the interconnectedness of light and darkness resonates with me.
