[ Della's face pops up looking... well, like everyone else - exhausted physically, mentally, and emotionally. She smacks her beak a bit, before speaking. ]

... So. That sucked.

[ Fully aware that's the understatement of the century, Della draws a breath, and tries again. ]

I think we could all use a nice, long breather after everything... and, gosh darn it, as Train Mom, that is my sacred duty. Hugs? Head on the lap? Head-pats telling you that you did a good job? A shoulder to cry on? Venting out all your feelings without judgement? I'm right here.

[ She slaps her chest, then slaps a small sign on on the sports/gym car. It reads

EXHAUST PILE WITHIN

But as she does this, Tidus enters the scene - Della jumps, surprised, almost forgetting his presence.

He just smiles, holding up two cups with steam coming off them, then addresses the video feed as well. ]

We're also making big batches of cocoa too. Any of you that're gonna stress bake? There's room for that room - s'long as you don't need a nap first.

[ It's a small chide though, his smile small but sympathetic. ]

I've gotten out some incense pots from the supplies - you guys who got your head thrown into a blender by that aash-- uh, that jerk, [ he takes a swift glance at Della, then back ] --it'll help you relax. Just some, but better than nothin'. I'll set some off in Momma Duck's air nest, but if you're not doing great and you think you need a pot? Tell me. Raven made a lot of good stuff for good nights sleep if you need any in the medcar, too.

... So, yes. Cocoa. Incense. Hugging. And if you want to sleep with friends for a couple nights, we got air beds and extra pillows in here. Nobody has to get up and go until they feel ready.

And if that's not enough, that's fine too. Maybe next month we do something a little more organized, if you have any suggestions - movie night, sleepover night, big eat night, whatever, I'm listening. And I'm here for you.

And inside the sports gym, the pair can be found. They have a few airbeds blown up, but there's more that still need airing up if you pop in straight after their message. There's also a tremendous amount of pillows. If you want to help, get blowing, and make these airbeds look nice and comfy!

The transgate from the standard coach has mysteriously been moved to the sports gym's outer hallway. Who did that? But it makes it easier to bring in the cups of hot chocolate from the kitchens, and for anyone who wants to bring snacks to do so. Take a seat, remember to bring your sleeping bag and whatever else you want. Plushes, your own musical instrument to offer some de-stress medication of your own with a melody.

And there's an area where small incense pots burn away, a gentle mist rising up. It won't heal the mind completely, but it will offer it some peace. And if you're worried about nightmares, a few of Raven's sachets and teas are available.

So come get a mom hug. Come and offer hugs. Just come and get something out of the company, whatever it is. Tidus and Della - and others - will be here to give a hand.

The life you had might've been fake, but the people around you aren't.

"The less there is, the better they get at finding it." It's something she really loves about people. They always manage it despite the odds. "Turning little things into ritual, repeating them as a way of finding what comfort they can."

"It always seemed to be a matter of survival, though I usually saw them when that survival fails in the endless winter." The mortals lived their lives as much as they could because their time was so short. They didn't know about the afterlife. Most of the time they had a hard time identifying who he actually was.

"You only ever see them on the job, don't you?" That seems like the logical conclusion. IT's a very busy job, it's too easy to fall into that habit. She learned that the hard way.

"Yes. Whether it's from winter or wars, mortals die easily in my world. The balance between life and death has long been disturbed." Thanatos doesn't have time to himself. It's partly the reason why he doesn't know what to do with himself on the train, especially when he's like he is now.

"I found I got better at the job when I had a chance to get to know them. But if the balance is a mess that's a higher priority." the job would be easier if that didn't happen too.

"When I say my world has eternal winter, I mean it's just that. Lady Demeter refuses to change the seasons. It causes the mortals to war over what little resources there are, and death... is being disrupted without my presence, which only makes it worse."

Those relying on prey, those who suffer illness, age, injury... Does he really need to explain things to her? The state of the world was bad after a month without death. It's nearing four months now.

"Who pissed off Demeter?" That is an exceedingly bad life choice. DOn't piss off Demeter! "You're not able to be in more than one place?"

That's troubling. She at least has the comfort of being fairly certain that the rest of her is still working.

"Her mortal lover died, and her daughter, Persephone, disappeared. She blames mortals for her pain." So, love? Grief? Misplaced blame?

And it says a lot about Thanatos's current emotional state (or lack of one) when he follows up blankly with "I can only be at one place at a time. No one is dying." Hermes and Charon cannot bring shades to Hades if the very act of dying is not present.

"No one is dying in a world of cold and famine." Her voice does shake with emotion. That is a disaster. She's not in favour of people starving and freezing but if the alternative is for them to be driven to the point of death and not make it over the edge?

It's worse.

It's so much worse.

"Correct." Thanatos once wondered what made the train choose to save one world but doom another. The people and fauna of his world don't deserve to suffer just because Death Incarnate has gotten himself trapped again.

"... You're the first to fully understand the scope of what I speak when it comes to my role."

"Most people haven't seen what happens themselves." She's only ever seen it once. But it was entirely her doing. THat was enough to make sure it never happened again.

If she's wrong about the rest of her... the universe is in trouble.

And no one seems to take Death Incarnate's word at how bad it is and not something someone else can fix. If it could be fixed by getting another psychopomp to ferry souls, Thanatos might have been left in a chest for much longer; there wouldn't have been any major interruption.

"No, they believe no death means immortality."

"Technically it does. They just confuse that with invulnerability and freedom from suffering." It's easy to get those confused. And there were all the fools who asked for immortality and forgot eternal youth.

And when those mortals ask that of other gods... well, Thanatos can't even grant them peace from their suffering. Their threads of life are woven away from him and tied to the god that cursed them.

Thanatos looks across at those resting on pillows and drinking their cocoa. However, he doesn't see them, exactly. He's picturing the mortals back home. His world currently is filled with those kind of immortals. Even worse, Thanatos can't trust that the Olympians are doing more to care for them in the meantime.

"Death, do you know how to sever a tether?"

"That depends what you mean by a tether." It could be a few different things. Some she can sever. Some she could, but won't. If it's something unique to his world, it won't be as clear at all.

But usually the question isn't can she, it's should she.

"After what I've heard and seen, we are tethered to the train in some fashion. Those with weaker tethers to the train might explain those who leave on the platforms."

Everything Thanatos has tried to do, multiple attempts to leave from the platforms and worlds, has failed. "It might also be the reason why I cannot shift back home."

She grimaces. "That's the one thing I haven't found a way to affect. Whatever the train is doing, it works on a level that I can't actually see."

It's unsettling, being in a universe she's not fundamental to. Or an in between place.

Thanatos doesn't sigh. He doesn't show much disappointment on his face or let it enter his tone. Such emotions would only prevent him from finding a solution and doing his job. "I would try to cut my own thread, but that is the wrong sort of tether. It's different than whatever keeps me here."

Also, it would kill him. Possibly.

"The train seems to be functioning on a level that's invisible to us. WHatever's holding us must be part of what pulled us away." And none of them noticed it happening, so they can't lose that.

"Other than seeming distant, the people leaving don't have anything obviously different about them."

The people who left the train didn't seem to feel different from what Thanatos could sense. Even if he had gaps, that didn't change for the few he had sensed something from. But there was no stopping those people once they were set to leave by whatever force.

Funny how Thanatos is seeming just as distant as some of them but still very much on the train. "Some names turn gold. However, not every golden name equals someone leaving."

"And there's no more pattern to that than there is to who leaves." She grimaces. THere's no point pretending otherwise. "I don't like how few answers I have to offer here."

She doesn't always answer every mortal question but at least normally she has a sense of the truth.

Are they still considered mortal questions when coming from a god?

"I normally have more information for my responsibilities." However, this train continues to be vague. Thanatos doesn't function as well without his orders, without a clearer understanding of his role. He's looking for something that puts his capture into perspective, a reason, some woven fate. But there might not be one to discover.

"I should return to doing what I can, and let you and others rest."
