llama 16, video + action
[ Hello, ICP video. There's a Tidus sitting on the computer chair in the standard coach when the image pops up, waving up a hand to the screen. ]
Hey, 'sup everyone! I got some stuff from the last mission with Inigo and Dennis that we wanna share with the rest of the train. Some computer tablets, VR glasses, goggles - hey Seto! You can do somethin' with those, right? - and some clothes and whatever else we could get our hands on.
Nothin' like books or music or food. Sorry! But if you like lamps or fans, we got those. [ Ahahaha. ] Oh yeah, and some first aid kits too, if any of the teams want 'em for supplies. And speaking of, Jane told me about these bacta bandages thingies they use where she's from. Like some kind of healing...gel you can sit over wounds? Uh, I got a book on it for an easier time understanding the stuff.
Annnyway, [ moving alooong, ] there's something I wanted to talk about with the last mission and those illusions. I know there's people who know how to work with tech or magic, usually one or the other... well, I don't know anything about making things, but I know there's a lot you can do with the right tools and know-how. And there was some magic and gear that could push back on the illusions. Like a bracer I have, and one of the spells on the manadrives!
I was talkin' with Q'uila - she's a blacksmith that works with enchanting. And I know there's this big chunky book on magic and magitek in the library. Uhh, I've never read it [ because NO THANKS ] but I didn't know if we could... do something? To help with these missions? Create some kinda...I don't know, big barriers when we turn them on, that don't need magic folk casting them! Put our heads and resources together and make somethin' cool!
[ Cool magitek science junk!! ]
A-anyway! [ Because he realises he's really reaching here-! ] If anyone's interested, I'm fine if you wanna check out the bracer that helped with the illusions - even if you need to take it apart. And I know Senku's been checking out the manadrives - that has a magic barrier spell too, and Light got manuals on the things. And I got some other gems and protection gear from my world too! If it'll help. Never know, right?
'kay, well - see you!
[ ACTION: standard coach ]
[ And for those of you who come into the standard coach, either because of the message or just because you were passing through, Tidus has taken up a table with a bunch of...everything on the table. Tablets, pens, folded clothes in different sizes, cute toys and ...cubes?.
And Tidus is sat taking up an entire booth couch, legs folded and playing a handheld game.
Let's play shop. ]

i'm naggy
I've sat around watching games with pals than palling around with wyverns. [ Actually... ] Does your world have wyverns? Inigo makes them sound like things that you need a sword around.
[ And Dennis's world wasn't big on swords, apparently. Just like his own Zanarkand. ]
I don't know what to do with the both of you gosh
Uhh they're smaller than dragons, yeah? I think?
[Asked at Inigo.]
We ain't got real dragons and stuff, just stories. Not real where I'm from.
love us forever?
[ Cue Inigo giving Tidus a 'see?' kind of look. Some people have appropriate ideas about creatures even if they might not necessarily exist in their worlds! This is such a big point in Dennis' favour right here. ]
They're everywhere where I'm from. My world wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for dragons.
agreed
Oh yeah, his people worship a dragon called Naga. And maybe my world had dragons and wyverns once! [ Hands going up! ] But the closest I've seen was, it was a....thing. [ A thing. Mainly, he's going for that because he's sure he's never explained Fayth to Dennis, and remembering his own life in Zanarkand and how closer to that than outside it Dennis seems? He doesn't want to confuse the guy. ]
We used to have stories about sea fiends. No dragons for us.
I suppose this is possible
Yeah? Did some dragon god make your world or something?
[Look it sounds like a guess he's pulling out of his ass, but a boy has played video games and watched movies and shit like that happens. People from his world think a man in the sky created his in seven days so, not so crazy sounding really.]
Think the closest we have to dragons and such on Earth are uh... er, well had, was dinosaurs? Bunch of really big lizards, some had wings. Some were big as buildings and shit. Crazy stuff, we only have their skeletons and bones left now, they're all dead.
[He considers what Tidus has said. Not exactly specific about anything, but sounds like maybe it's kind of the same as Earth. One point there could have been stuff like that, but things go extinct for whatever reason alas. Though probably for the better when it comes to dinosaurs when it comes to humans.]
Fiends? So like giant sea creatures? Whales? Sharks?
no subject
[ Does that sound a little culty? Perhaps. But Inigo smiles so happily as he says it anyway, as if something about that thought just brings joy and relief to his heart.
He seems to move on from it though, considering Dennis' dinosaurs for a moment before taking his chance to pipe up at that last part. ]
Everything in Tidus's world is a sea creature. [ Now that's a gross oversimplification on Inigo's part, but look, this whole animal thing has been going on for a long time now. ] But fiends are.. uh, more like monsters from his world. From what I've seen, anyway.
[ Thanks, weird one-eyeball-flying-thing from the last mission. ]
no subject
[ Wait, he realises how that sounds. ]
Like the dead energy. If you don't move on peacefully, you leave a lot of bad stuff in the air, and that gets turned into fiends. So our monsters aren't like, you know- sticking around?
[ He tilts a hand, really just a conversational habit thing than really visually anything. But monsters apparently are things that are just around, soo. ]
But a lot of them are always the same thing, and they look and sound like half the stuff people talk about. Some of them look like lizards, or big things with wings.
[ He shifts against his seat, cocking his head in Inigo's direction. ]
Where I lived was surrounded by sea, so that's what Inigo's talking about. I didn't see a lot of land animals! Not my fault. [ But! ] But we had whales and sharks too. And dolphins!
no subject
For the most part he just nods and 'ooooh's silently at the both of them explaining things.]
Whoa so your monsters are pissed off ghosts?
[Wait is that disrespectful?]
Does killing them uh like help them cross over?
[And nice it seemed like even though they were from different worlds there were still some things that were the same. That's kind of cool actually.]
You ever gotten to like, swim with them or anything? I know people do that on Earth, dunno if I could ever get in the water with sharks though.
no subject
This is the point where Inigo realises just how much he's shot himself in the foot - because now the conversation sure is moving on to sea creatures because of him bringing that up, and that's exactly the thing he knows next to nothing about. Look, Ylisstol didn't exactly sit right next to sea, okay! ]
Why do people swim with animals?
[ Might as well ask that, since he's sure either Tidus or Dennis could give him an answer to that. Or maybe they'd each give a different answer, since there could still be differences between Zanarkand and this Earth place.
Seriously, why though. Is there some secret appeal? ]
no subject
[ By dancing, Inigo!! Don't let those ears perk up.
But as for swimming with animals, he has to take a second to think. A second Inigo takes to ask his own question, which Tidus just tips his head with in place of a shrug. ]
Just something fun to do. I've never done it, but I've heard of people going down and petting octopus and dolphins. You get an oxygen mask and some gear if you're not trained to swim that far deep.
[ Not that Tidus can go far far down, buut. ]
no subject
[There's definitely been and still are people in the world who've done stuff like that. Whether you believe that it works is another thing.]
Yeah, that's one reason. Some people do it for research or even a kind of therapy too. Never done it myself, I'm too much of a filthy land lubber.
no subject
But right after he says that, a realisation hits him.
Hang on.
Dancing. Dancing?! D-Dancing?!
Inigo just stares at Tidus. Of course he doesn't dare to speak the d-word out loud himself, but he's staring so hard. Dude, people do that through dancing in your world, and you didn't even tell him?! ]
no subject
...
...
But he feels eyes on him. Inigo eyes, and he looks at the other guy, blankly.
...
................. ]
I don't think Dennis is filthy either? [ NAILED IT?? ] He wasn't serious!
[ come on Inigo, you! ]
no subject
[And after a weird staring contest between Tidus and Inigo
you both do that a lot, Tidus explains it. He definitely hadn't been serious. He was more of a land bound boy, but he definitely didn't think he was "filthy".]And yeah, therapy. I know like, uh kids with like mental issues, anxiety and stuff, it's like calming and therapeutic for them? Not like with sharks or whales, but dolphins.
[The image of a kid petting the head of a giant shark is an interesting one.]
no subject
He instead just sighs, dropping his face into his hands. ]
Maybe I could use that too, if it's really that calming.
[ ESPECIALLY AT THIS VERY EXACT MOMENT. ]
no subject
Got any calming therapeutic firefighter techniques to use on our guy here?
[ Heh heh. ]
no subject
Uhh... noooot really? I mean usually I'd just play video games at home or like... watch cat videos on youtube?
[Don't judge him.]
no subject
Because Inigo didn't understand half of that sentence. The latter half, mostly, since this place sure has educated him on the former half. ]
Tidus likes playing video games too. [ He says, pointing at the guy. That's the video games guy.
He's trying to make Inigo play them too, but Tidus sure is the video game guy. ]
I didn't know they were calming though.
no subject
He has a handheld too. [ Nodding to Inigo. Hah, he can do it back!! ] But he never plays it! Do you even have it on you now? [ No need to judge Dennis when he can be judging Inigo, even giving him a look! But nevertheless, Tidus doesn't wait for an answer before continuing: ]
We got a strategy game and a fighting game. [ ...well-- ] They're both fighting, but one you have to move around in blocks? I find them fun.
[ But maybe Inigo needs something else. Instead of thinking about that though, Tidus brightens with the thought- ]
Do you have them back home? Games you can carry around. You can get one from my world - or somewhere out there!
no subject
[Dennis shrugs a little.]
They can also be frustrating as hell, but usually they're a good distraction from whatever bullshit y'got going on.
[He's then nodding at Tidus, but seems to stop to think what kind of game he's talking about. Uhhhh...]
... tactics? Is it a tactics game?
[Not really his thing, but he knows of them.]
There's so many types of handheld games and consoles back home. Some are cheap trash, but there's good ones too.
no subject
But he's trying to not let this turn into a full on (Inigo-induced, he must admit) domestic dispute right in front of Dennis' salad, so he doesn't linger on the topic. Instead he shakes his head as he listens to the two of them, his brain able to wrap itself around the information presented to him here thanks to already having some experience with these things now. ]
.. Do they have games about firefighters?
[ Look.
They're still fighters, right? There could be a game about that! A game where you.. punch fire?
Wait, hold on, speaking of that-- He glances over at Tidus too. ]
Didn't they have blitzball video games in your world? [ Because Tidus always made the sport sound like it's super popular. ]
no subject
[ He needs more gaaaaaames to blot out Inigo's whining at him. Though he actually asks a very good question, one that gets Tidus nodding fondly. ]
Sure! Hand-helds, VR, all kinds. Not that I needed to play them! [ Since he could go out and do the real deal, EYYYY. ]
no subject
Oh definitely, not played any myself, but there's games for everything. They got these like, simulator games? You literally play a game that's doing whatever they're trying to simulate.
[He makes a vague flying motion with a hand.]
Like flying planes or driving trucks. [He pauses, grins at Inigo.] Fighting fires.
no subject
But Inigo goes quiet for a moment, clearly trying to wrap his mind around the concept of these games. The fact that his world has neither planes nor trucks sure doesn't help, but.. ]
Oh.. Maybe I'd play those. I'd like to know what it was like to do the stuff you guys do back home. [ So maybe he can understand them better? He thinks Dennis must be pretty tough if he was facing fire all the time, but that way he'd know for sure! ]
.. and at least if it's a fake game, it's not like I can get his by any real balls.
Or fire.
[ Both suck. ]
no subject
You should get one! We can try playing more games. How about one of us buy? [ He gives a look over to Inigo. ] Don't know about you, but we have the points for a few games and handhelds to play 'em on.
[ And why not treat Dennis, if he'd find it fun? ]
