[Adam isn't good at asking for help, and this video is long overdue, honestly. He's put it off too many times out of uncertainty or not wanting to bother people or...some other lame excuse. But he's done with excuses now.

He still looks unsure when the video comes on.]

Hello. So, I've been here for a couple of months now and I've seen that a lot of the missions involve fighting, which is something I can't do.

I want to change that.

I'm looking for someone, or multiple people [He wasn't going to limit it to just one person; everybody had different techniques and styles, maybe learning from multiple sources would benefit him.] to teach me how to fight.

I warn you though, I've never thrown a punch in my life, so we'd be starting from the ground up, but I'm a diligent student.

[He hesitated for another moment, biting his lip, then nodded.]

[Adam might have been quiet and sensible, but he was still a teenager, even if only for a few more months, and the idea of learning how to sword fight made his face light up.]

That'd be great. I've never handled a sword in my life, but I'd love to learn.

[And Inigo was right; a lot of the words they visited seemed to be some kind of medieval and used swords.]

It's not that hard to learn! Not the basics, anyway.

[ And hopefully the basics should be enough for when he finds himself wielding a sword in battle - at least for now. They have a while until the next mission, after all, and a month should be enough to at least learn something. ]

And they have practice swords here on the train, so we can easily use those. [ So no one will end up accidentally injured during training. Inigo doesn't want to have to explain that to one of the healers... ]

That's a relief. I wouldn't want to accidentally hurt anyone while learning.

[By being a clumsy idiot or something. He assumed he would be the one at the most risk of doing the hurting since he wouldn't know what he was doing.]

[ He laughs. ]

Don't worry too much about it. I'm an expert, you see? [ It's definitely much more confident than anything Inigo would usually say, but he figures that he may as well be a little dramatic to keep the air light and joking. ] I'm pretty sure you couldn't hurt me even if you tried.

Well, not until you get a little better first, anyway.

[ Inigo definitely isn't invincible, after all, no matter how much he likes to pretend so at times. ]

Just let me know when we should start.

[Adam laughed, too.]

I wouldn't tempt fate if I were you. You never know what could happen.

[And Adam'd tempted fate enough during his 19 years so far.]

I'm all right with starting whenever you are.

[Even if that was immediately.]

Well, if you want, we could head over to the training carriage right away and see if there's some room for the both of us. [ Since Inigo knows a lot of the people here on the train do train a lot.. But then again, it's not like two regular humans like them are going to need a whole lot of space. ]

[Adam brightened. He wasn't the kind of person who enjoyed sitting around and waiting, especially when it came to getting into something new, so immediate was something he could appreciate.]

Sure; that sounds good. I'll head right on over.

[ True to his word, Inigo does immediately set out to head over to the right carriage. Thankfully it doesn't seem too busy right now - maybe some of the people who usually train are kind of done with fighting for a little bit after fighting so much during the mission, who knows.

But thankfully it leaves enough room for the two of them. So when Adam arrives at the carriage, he'll find Inigo already holding two practice swords, raising one of them so he can wave him over. ]

Over here!

[When he arrived, Adam was relieved that the carriage didn't seem too crowded. He might have joked about being the one getting hurt, but he didn't want to accidentally smack someone else with a training sword, either. He was more worried about that than embarrassing himself.

Heading on over, he offered a nod.]

Looks like you're all ready to go.

Of course!

[ Inigo lets out a small 'heh', offering one of the swords to him when he's close enough. ]

Got to be prepared if I'm going to be the teacher here, right? Just try holding this one.

[He took the sword, shifting his hand around on it until he had a comfortable grip, though he had no idea if it was even close to how you were supposed to hold a sword.]

You don't look like a teacher. [After a beat he realized how that could sound and hastily added-] I mean, not like the teachers at my school. A lot of them were pretty stuffy. You're much nicer.

[ Inigo looks baffled for a moment, but then, once Adam adds the rest of what he's saying, he just bursts out into laughter instead. ]

I thought for a moment there that you were going to insult me! [ But now he understands. Inigo had teachers back home too, after all, and he also thought they were incredibly stuffy back when they actually taught him.

And he's very much glad to not be shoved into that category himself. ]

Well, I guess it's since it's not exactly my job to teach this stuff to people. But sometimes necessity makes us do odd things, right?

God, no. Sorry.

[Adam could and would insult people to their faces, but only when they'd been a dick first. The idea that he'd come close to accidentally insulting Inigo made him feel aghast.

Inigo seemed leaps and bounds better than most of the teachers at Aglionby, especially their unfortunate string of Latin teachers.]

I really appreciate that you're willing to teach me anything, especially if this isn't the kind of thing you normally do.

Well.. we're all stuck in this together. And I kind of feel bad knowing that people are going out during missions without having any idea how to defend themselves if something were to happen. [ And stuff does happen. So often, too. And while it's usually the same teams who carry out most of the fighting, Inigo is well aware that there's technically not always a safe spot during every mission. ]

Better to be prepared, right?

[ He turns a little, shoving off how he's holding his own practice sword. ]

Here, you hold it like this. That's the steadiest grip, especially if your opponent is looking to try and knock your sword out of your hands.

Not everyone is as nice as you are. [Not everyone was as concerned with others, either. The point was, Adam was grateful, especially since he had nothing to offer in return except gratitude. Though now that he was thinking about it, he really should find a way to pay back everyone who was offering to teach him things.

Nodding, he shifted his grip on his sword, mimicking how Inigo was holding his.]

Like this? [Just so that he was sure.]

[ He nods. ]

Yeah. It's understandable if your grip ends up shifting a little while you're starting to learn, since you're still not used to it. But try to return to this hold the moment you remember it. It's all about getting used to it. [ And while Inigo is very used to it - that's what happens when you've been holding a sword since you were very young - he can still kind of view this from the point of view of someone who hasn't. ]

Try holding it tightly like that for a moment. I'll swing at your sword, so you can see how it feels when someone hits it.

[ And so he does! Even though Inigo is sure to not put his full strength in it, since he feels like he'd just knock it clean out of Adam's hands otherwise.. But it's not like a light tap either. Adam will definitely feel some force hitting that practice sword as Inigo swings against it.

[He made a mental note of that, doing his best to memorize the way his hands were on the sword. In the end, he knew it was going to come down to practice, but he could help that along by doing his best to remember the proper way to do things at all times.

Holding on tight, he'd never been more grateful for the weights class he'd been taking before he moved for Harvard. He was sure it came in handy in this very moment, as his sword turned when Inigo hit it, but he didn't drop it.]

I think I can handle that.

Good.

[ Inigo grins as he says it. At least it means Adam should be able to deal with average blows? After all, when you're totally unused to fighting, it's better to know how to use the sword to protect yourself than to attack something right away, Inigo thinks. ]

The average blow you'll have to deal with is probably a little harder than that, but not by much. Unless you're dealing with some sort of huge muscly guy, but honestly, it's better to just get away from the situation at that point.

[He nodded. That made sense, even if he wasn't a fan of running away from problems.]

Know your limits and all of that. And when not to charge into a situation.

[Luckily, he was a pretty analytical thinker, so he shouldn't have too much trouble with judging if he could actually take on an opponent or not. Hopefully.]

[ Hopefully. Inigo sure is banking on it. He doesn't think Adam has seemed in any way like an impulsive idiot so far - and Inigo has seen his fair share of those, so he likes to think he could pick them out of a crowd. ]

Yeah, especially when we're on a mission. During some of them the combat isn't too bad, but there have definitely been more than a few overwhelming battles lately. Even with some practice, I wouldn't advice you to jump into those right away. [ He shakes his head. ] Those can end really badly even for experienced fighters.

The other teams go through some really tough things. [He agreed.] I don't think I'd be able to handle those kinds of fights for a while.

[Right now, he just wanted to be able to take care of himself if put in much less dangerous one on one type situations or if something came up unexpectedly. He had realistic goals.]

Hmm. [ He nods.

It's good to see Adam be so realistic about it though. The last thing Inigo wants is to train someone, only for that person to get a little too overconfidnet about it.. ]

It's not like even the 'safer' teams are always 100% safe. [ He'll never forget that time the orange team got attacked first out of all of them. It feels awful to not be at the frontline, and to know there's many more vulnerable pople there instead. ] So if something like that happens to one of those teams again, you can at least help hold off the danger until the more experienced fighters show up.

Yeah. Orange has had some dangerous situations before.

[Even just since he'd been on the train, which he knew hadn't been that long compared to certain other people.

He just wanted to feel useful.]

Knowing I can defend myself will at least give me one less thing to worry about so much.

Right, so..!

[ Inigo raises the practice sword again. ]

Let's keep at it for a while and practice, so you'll be prepared for the next mission!

[Adam nodded, adjusting his grip on his own sword.]

Alright.

[He wanted to learn as much as he could, especially before the next mission.]
