[Good morning, train. You get a somewhat mussed-looking Casper in a blue hoodie, sitting in the hall of Sleeper Three.]

Uh. Hey. For those of you I haven't met, my name's Casper. I'm new. ... I'm on purple, this hoodie came with me. Anyway.

I've done worldhopping before, picked up some stuff. I'll follow everyone else's lead but... shit, I'm rambling, sorry.

Does anyone else here get prophetic dreams or whatever? We're supposed to be getting close to mission time, yeah? I got hit with one... mine always are bad ends, stuff to avoid... not always straightforward but I'll share what I got.

The whole place was monochrome, people screaming, buildings falling... and then something ripping the sky apart, pulling it open like a portal... something with big claws and huge eyes, hissing and spraying something black.

I'm... honestly too tired to give you anything solid as to what it means, but I thought I'd ask if anyone else has info.

I don't experience such visions myself, but that sounds...rather like a world in the midst of destruction.

Sure does. And anything that can tear through realities is bad news. That's... sort of where I got this kind of ability from.

"He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster. And if thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee." All that kind of thing. I've got more defenses now, but... yeah. There was some damage.

I am...well aware. I lost my very humanity through what began as well-meaning research into beings capable of such destruction. Thus far, I have not heard of any sightings of those creatures I studied, but I have...seen many worlds fall to them, and what you described always heralds the point of no return.

... Sorry. Anyway... um. We'll make sure that it doesn't happen. I probably can't do anything to close a rip like that, but I can and will punch whatever monster it is in the face.

I'm uncertain if my powers over darkness would be enough to close a portal the size of those I have seen, but I could certainly make the attempt. If your visions are worst case scenarios, however, we can hope that this intrusion is something we can prevent before it begins.

I can see in the dark, but that's about all the darkness powers I've got. And if this place isn't responding to a lot of my abilities I doubt that one will. It was... creepy.

But as much as I wish I had happier dreams, at least they're useful. And I've got anti-nightmare stuff so I know this isn't just a regular nightmare.

Darkness exists at the edge of all worlds, and my power has not been utterly useless, but...there are two concerning things. I seem to be incapable of opening corridors through this Void, as I have between the worlds I know. If what you saw truly was an incursion from outside that world, it must be something of immense power. I have heard mention of one such thing encountered during a prior mission, and it is believed to have wiped this train's world of origin from both existence and memory.

Yeah, I can't open corridors either. I can't even sniff out where other worlds are.

... I have enhanced senses, it's a whole Thing.

Hm. ... Wiped from memory... you wouldn't have happened to hear the word 'mobius' around those rumors?

[That sounds ominous if nothing else. To say the least when he explains what it is that he sees.]

I've n-never had one myself. Uhm... Are you sure it wasn't just a nightmare?

... I'm sure, unfortunately. It can be symbolic... but I have things around that prevent nightmares. Those are the only kinds that slip through those protections.

So you're absolutely certain it was like a vision? Do you know what it means at all?

Presumably we're dealing with something that can punch holes in realities which is... worrying.

Past that... I've never seen it before, so I couldn't tell you any more specifics. But being prepared for a nasty fight is probably the best precaution to take for it.

Prophetic dreams aren't uncommon on the train, particularly a day or so before a mission. Unfortunately, most of the others who I know also received them have either departed or are currently missing.

[She shuffles a bit, reaching out for what looks to be a stack of paper]

I am not entirely sure that the visions we receive here correspond neatly to the way they manifest in our own worlds. Before I arrived here, mine tended toward the heavily symbolic- but everything I've seen in one here has been something which has occurred or been seen during the pertinent mission.

Okay. Hopefully some of them are more positive than constant bad outcomes.

Oh, I didn't have these at home. I was in a place between worlds before... a few of us ended up getting affected by sort of... "things man was not meant to know" kind of stuff.

Another world between worlds, then? [Sighing, reaching for a pen] I don't know if your experience would change matters, I'm afraid. The mechanism for one's gifts seems to matter less than the fact that they exist.

The visions tend to vary in intensity month by month, and by team and individual as well, sometimes. You will likely find some to be merely perplexing, and others....

[A pause.]

Others may indeed be quite distressing. Forgive me for prying, but may I ask a few questions?

[Oh she takes notes. Awesome.]

I'm used to longer missions - about a month and a half or so. I'm also used to a telepathic network for quick strategy and no established teams.

Sure, go ahead. I don't mind.

You should be well-prepared, then. These missions usually last about a week.

The buildings you mentioned- would they be a city surrounded by towers?

Maybe? I didn't actually see them, I just... happen to know what falling buildings sound like.

Sadly, I doubt you're the only one with that knowledge among our present company.

[The train does seem to choose people with such *interesting* backgrounds, after all.]

[ Well, it was that time, huh? He's got thoughts about a dream like that, but nevermind- Casper's still in his room, isn't he? ]

Hey, you want a drink or something? Doesn't sound like the kind of dream you wanna go back to sleep right after.

[He's at the ICP outside of his room - he didn't want to disturb his roommates.]

Uh... I'm okay, but... sure. And yeah, I'm tired but it'll be a little bit until I can sleep again...

Wanna meet in the-- [ What's the closest? oh yeah- ] Library? Take a seat? It's turning into our hang out spot, [ he says with a light joke. ] Tea or coffee?

There's an ICP in there. You know, for dream sharing. [ If Casper wants to be on call or talking about it. And if anyone is going to care about talking in the library at this time in the morning, they need to get a new hobby. ]

[~~It's okay I'm 31 and can't read either.~~]

Library's fine. Uh... tea'd be good. Something fruit-flavored, if there's any around.

Don't worry about it, yeah? [ He says it lightly, knows Casper isn't talking like that; a soft but cheerful reassurance. ] One tea, coming up. I'll see you in a flash!

[ And fortunately, Tidus was somewhere halfway between the designated meeting spot and the kitchen. Still, the cars are long, and he isn't actually incredibly speedy - not when he's carrying a cup of tea already awkwardly through the multiple cars - so it takes him five minutes or so to get to the designated meeting car.

But when he does, Tidus is all smiles when he finally spots Casper, some biscuits/cookies in hand along with the drink, no indoor library voice being used as he sets them down on the surface. ]

Sorry, couldn't find anything than the black stuff. I didn't ask you about sugar or milk either - I'm really good at this, [ he says, not afraid to poke fun at himself. But he puts his right hand to the table, and a small glass bottle appears filled with milk in a light dusting of gold that fades; the same hand then moving to the side of that, so a bowl of sugar with the spoon can appear as well. ]

Good thing I can bring the kitchen out with me.

[Casper doesn't take too long to get to the library - even without pushing himself he walks pretty quickly nowadays. He's already sitting at one of the tables - he'd sit on a beanbag chair if he wasn't worried that he'd spill.]

[He smiles at the tea and the presentation of the milk an sugar and puts a little of both in the tea.]

Pretty handy, yeah. ... Usually after one of these I'd be eating comfort food, but neither of my usuals are on the train. Maybe I'll see if I can order them from the train...

Oh yeah? [ He lets his elbows rest on the table. ] What'cha craving?

Poutine and Kraft Dinner, which are french fries with cheese curds and brown gravy and a brand of noodles with a powdery cheese mix, respectively.

That's...different. [ And nothing Tidus can imagine looking or being appeal. Noodles? In a powdery...cheese?! He's somewhere between a look of baffled and amused. Maybe confused. ]

I think I'll stick to my craving of coffee out of a shop and the pastry of the day. [ Aha. ] That's what I wouldn't mind. Coming out with them fresh and the sounds of a city? I've been thinking about it for days.

[ It's not exactly comfort food, but hey, it's close enough right now. You miss even the simple, little things once in a while. Especially when you have the basic coffee the train provides. ]

It's better than it sounds. Maybe not if you're not used to it, though

Yeah. I miss my city... I mean, I moved to another country right before everything went insane but I grew up in a big city for most of my life.

You did? What was it like? [ There's a genuine interest--moving out from a city to somewhere else, Tidus can relate to it a little, though not fully. Most people came from life more...larger, divided by continents and islands.

But Tidus catches himself too, a small beat only passing before he shakes his head. ]

Wait wait, I'm getting sidetracked. I wanted to tell you, if anyone else didn't, the visions people get around here? They're worse than what we get on a mission. Doesn't stop you from having a bad sleep, but. If it helps any.

[ To make the guy feel any better, and it comes with a reassuring smile - or hopefully, it is. ]

The place I came from? It was... big. It's the biggest city in the province, and most people there speak French as a first language. I... don't, my French is terrible. I went to an Engish-speaking school.

[This probably means nothing to Tidius and - oh. Right. Sidetracked.]

Yeah, I'm... not that worried about that. I just wanted the information out there. ... Also honestly if I get the group working on it, I stop having to obsess over it so much and I can actually get some sleep.

Doom visions being announced is usually when everyone starts doing the last minute cooking and get talking to their teams. [ Pfft, or so the responsible people do, anyway. But Tidus remarks on it with some humour than anything serious -- even if it isn't entirely untrue. ]

You feeling better after talking about it with people then? Got it out of your system?

Yeah, it's... it's close to that time, isn't it? I read the mission guide pamphlet.

... Uh huh. A little bit, at least. It's easier to not have to figure things out on your own.

Yeah. Don't think it's the same day every time, but once the dreams start happening? You get the mission call the day after that.

Should be easy for you though. I mean, half of our stuff hasn't been as long or weird as anything you've told me about! Don't show up the rest of us, yeah? [ Aha. ]

I mean, it's not a competition. ... We'll get through it though.
