[Ken's in the training gym and he looks... displeased. He huffs in annoyance, the orange-clad preteen with a look on him that seems more solidly 'angry teenager' than anything else.]

I've had to explain this a number of times so I might as well just tell everyone so people can stop being surprised and freaked out.

[He holds up a - well it looks like a gun.]

I know what this looks like. It looks like a gun. It isn't a gun. No bullets.

[He steps back so there's a better view and he aims it towards a dummy, pulling the trigger. Not even really a click from the 'gun'.]

It's called an Evoker, it lets me use my powers. I'm not shooting myself. I'm just going to start hanging a sign in the hallway near the entrance to the car when I'm going to be training so people stop trying to save me from my own abilities and probably hurt me while doing it.

[He holds up a neatly handwritten sign that says 'NOT A REAL GUN IN USE'. He puts the paper down and grumbles.]

It makes a gunshot noise, but it's not hurting me. I'm just saying this so I can actually practice.

... I mean I can show whoever if you want, but I'm just tired of explaining.

"Grown ups do that sometimes. Especially here, they think we will get hurt." And don't like them doing things like fighting or trying to help.

"What do you summon? Is it an animal?"

"Not really. It looks kind of like a robot crossed with a buzzsaw. I can show you if you want?" Hopefully the other kid doesn't freak out.

"A robot buzzsaw?"

He can't even imagine that! It sounds so strange. He nodded, "Can you? I want to see!"

Even if it was strange!

"Okay." He took a few steps back, holding his Evoker lightly in his hands. "Just remember, I'm not hurting myself."

He raised his Evoker to his forehead, taking a breath and pulling the trigger. A loud bang and the sound of breaking glass echoed through the gym as blue fog swirled around him. A strange creature appeared before him, spinning around her waist while keeping her legs still and revving the buzzsaw part.

A bolt of lightning came down from nowhere and struck the dummy before fading.

"I'll remember!" He stepped back as well, to give the boy space. It really did look like a gun, but he is used to weapons that aren't quite what they seem. Still the bang and glass smashing sound made him jump slightly.

He peered into the blue fog, eyes widening as he saw the creature. That was really strange!

"Wow!" But very cool, especially when the lightning hit the dummy.

He tucked the Evoker away, a smile threatening to tug at his usual grumpy expression. "Not very many people in my world can summon things like that. They're all different, with different names. Mine's name is Nemesis."

"Hello Nemesis!" He's not sure if it can hear or understand, never mind talk back. But it might be able to and so being polite was only right.

"Only some people can do it? Is it a magical power? Did you have to learn?"

That's kind of cute... "It's kind of like a magic power, yeah. And you do sort of have to learn, since you have to learn how to use your Evoker, but not to get it in the first place. For the most part, people who can use it are born with the ability. They don't pass out during the creepy time of the night when the world changes colors and people get sealed up in coffins."

"A creepy time of night where people get sealed up in coffins." His eyes widened a little bit.

"Your world sounds a bit scary! So you were awake for all that, because you got this ability inside you?"

He nodded. "Yeah. Ever since I was little..." He looked sad for a moment before pushing it away. "But now I can fight the monsters that show up during that time."

"That must have been a bit scary..." To be able to see creepy time, when he was so little and everyone else was sealed up in coffins!

"But now you can fight the monsters, I bet you're a really strong fighter!"

"Not as strong as some other people in my team... but I hold my own, yeah. Light attacks don't work so well here, only against things that are weak against light. But I also have a healing spell that's useful in a fight."

"Healing is really useful! And light is useful sometimes too! We once did a whole mission where the monsters could only be killed by lights and we all had to use our torches."

“It doesn’t really make light, just causes elemental damage that’s light-related.” And it doesn’t even work all the time.

"Oh. Well I bet that still works against monsters!"

He smiles at him. "You're on red team right? They got to fight lots of monsters so I bet you will be really helpful!"

"It does, especially if they're weak against it."

He nods at the question. "Yeah. I mean I guess the train or whoever's running it knew that I'd be more useful on red team than somewhere else." He'd probably go run off with red team even if he didn't get put there.

"I guess so!" He grinned, "I don't know who chooses though."

Probably the train. "I bet you will be really good on red team though."
