[The feed opens up with... a far-too-close zoom-in on Enna's eye. But then once she's satisfied it's on, she leans back, and nods to herself.]

Hello! So, Vee did that game where everyone got to ask it three questions. And I thought it seemed kinda fun. It would be a fun way to get to know everyone here. So I think it should be a game for everyone to play.

If you can do this.... Caw, ICP? Thingy. And talk to people. Let people ask you three questions and use it to get to know people! And even if you're the kind of person who doesn't care about getting to know people, it's still worth trying, because if we're all on teams and going on missions together, the more we know about each other, the better we can work together. Tactics, battle strategy, abilities, knowledge, strengths and weaknesses... And things like personality, history, all of that. The more we know about each other, the better we'll be.

Ready? I'll start!

My name is Zechs Merquise.

It'd be a lie to say you can ask me anything, in the interest of honesty.

But I was a soldier for ten years of my life, before I became a maintenance technician assisting a Martian terraforming project.

I have plenty of experience to share about military tactics and organization, areas which many seem to not have. I won't limit you to three questions if you have a genuine desire to improve yourself.

What made you switch from being a soldier to technician work?
zechs_isonfire: (14 inscruitable)

[personal profile] zechs_isonfire 2020-12-14 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
The war ended.

Mobile repair units are less elegant and far less technically demanding than military mobile suits, but the essential principle is the same.
enthunder: (zoom ☇ is it working)

No use for soldiers in peacetime. [ hmm. ] Since you want to share with the class, tell me. What's something you wish you'd known before your first battle?
zechs_isonfire: (honest)

[personal profile] zechs_isonfire 2020-12-14 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a balance you need to do between planning and improvisation.

Some people think they can purely act in the heat of the moment. Others, think that by understanding all the information ahead of time, they can perfectly outline their tactics and need not deviate.

In truth, the answer lies between. You can't simply react on instinct. And you can't simply rely on a predetermined strategy.

You must be able to improvise, adapt, and evolve quickly ... much like playing a game of chess during an earthquake.

And you'll fail in your first battle to be perfect at that.

Not bad. Could've done with hearing that myself. [ even considering her career as a 'move on instinct' kind of soldier, it's something she hopes people are listening to. ]

Which type were you?
zechs_isonfire: (curious)

[personal profile] zechs_isonfire 2020-12-23 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Believe it or not - I relied far more on my instincts and reflexes during my first battle than even I would’ve thought.

I did plan, analyze, and study - but once I was there, I simply reacted.

Melding what you know what is the correct action and what you feel in the moment is a complicated dance.

[personal profile] 10billionpercent 2020-12-14 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
How did you do Martian terraforming?
zechs_isonfire: (honest)

[personal profile] zechs_isonfire 2020-12-14 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Present tense; it is a work in progress. The project began in earnest about a year ago, and it's a slow process. Most of what my job has been over that year involves keeping the scientists and engineers alive in the colony which orbits the planet or on the various stations upon the surface, by maintaining that infrastructure.

The first step they're solving for is the complete lack of a magnetosphere around the planet. Lacking that, any attempts to generate an atmosphere will be demolished by solar winds.
10billionpercent: (Huh?)

[personal profile] 10billionpercent 2020-12-15 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm...I imagine an atmosphere change is complicated.

[ And now he wants to think about that for awhile. ]

What kind of stations do you have on the surface?
zechs_isonfire: (contemplative)

[personal profile] zechs_isonfire 2020-12-15 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Incredibly. But essentially, once a significant amount of atmosphere is built and heated, the rest of the process will be comparatively easier.

Monitoring stations, research stations, and developmental stations. With the process as slow as it is, there are many scientists who are arriving for the opportunity to study the planet as it is now. They'll probably also be monitoring how it changes over time, once the process begins in earnest.
10billionpercent: (Slight Smile)

[personal profile] 10billionpercent 2020-12-15 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure they are, in my time they hadn't made it to Mars before. If humanity had a way to go up there and study it, I'm not surprised they did.

Aside from scientist safety, are they looking to have a proper colony there?

[ That's what terraforming is for right? ]
zechs_isonfire: (honest)

[personal profile] zechs_isonfire 2020-12-23 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
The only real impediment before was a lack of funds, as most governments were focused so upon the various wars that plagued the Earthsphere. In their absence, more focus can be made to improve humanity.

Yes, eventually. Once the terraforming is further along. Some of the changes to the environment might make conditions violent on the surface for a short interim. Or at least that is one of theories presented.

[personal profile] 10billionpercent 2020-12-23 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds logical.

[ He hums, wars cost a lot of money, or at least they did when they were dealing with a technology race, at the moment their wars didn't cost more than labour. ]

Ah, yeah, I could see that, trying to force the climate to change always has unintended consequences, regardless of the speed at which it happens.

Oh. I'm out of questions.

Quiet. Desolate. Beautiful as well.

It is so remote, and such a harsh environment, looking down upon it - or standing on its surface, seeing the work to be done - instills as sense of awe.

Relatively speaking, my reality might be farther in the 'future' in comparison to yours, then.

Though, we've learned that none of us hail from the same place. Mapping your future's events based on my reality's past is likely futile.
