Mission Vision -- very early in the morning of Imagination Day 6 [Video]

[ Curufin falls out of his bunk, as usual when waking from a mission vision. CRASH! He hits the floor, his blankets entangled with his legs, his right shoulder striking the floor with a thud. Luckily Elves don't break bones easily, but his shoulder is going to hurt. He scrambles to the ICP. ]

Wouldn't you know it, I've just had another prophetic dream. [ He shakes his head and drags his hand through his disordered black hair. ]

Didn't like the looks of this one, either.

I was in a jungle, and it was pleasant enough. Sun shining down through the branches, forest sounds, nice. But suddenly the light intensified, and something seemed wrong with it. I ran to the next clearing and gazed up at the sky, and what I saw was ominous. The sky had turned a glaring dark red and was getting darker by the moment. And then everything grew still, as though the world had stopped. I did not have time to react to that, or wonder what it meant. Abruptly the ground shook under my feet, and the dust rose, and there was fire everywhere, and I heard screams, screams, and more screams. And then I woke up.

Damn if this doesn't seem to me like another candidate for an aborted mission! What the hell happens to the mission world? Is it self-destructing, or is it attacked by unknown forces? Or is this some simple natural disaster?

[ Still shaking his head. He grabs for his jacket and pulls it on. ]

Did anybody else have this dream? Or any variation of this dream?

Panicked. It takes him a bit to respond- his own bunkmates no doubt had to answer his own nightmare cries, but-]

Are you okay? That sounds like an awful dream.

[But... It wasn't that Takato doubted him. He'd had strange dream experiences of his own before. ]

How do you know it was prophetic?

Another day, another disaster. It...does sound familiar, like the last time we were evacuated.

[Nita is already at her SCA, eyes narrowed.]

That's the same dream I had, exactly.

Did we all get the same one?

[It was what Zelda had mentioned; Nerdanel as well. Was it just Orange team, or-

Oh, there was Jonouchi. Blue Team.]

You didn't see any shadows, right? That could mean it's more like that space mission, where it was a more... normal type of threat.

[And she hates that she has to specify in that way.]

[ Curufin gives him a concerned look. ]

No, you didn't. Was that here on the train, or before in your own world? What happened?

Yes, I'm okay. [ He rubs his shoulder and makes a face. ]

I know it was a prophetic dream because I've had them before, in my own world, in other worlds, and on the train. On the train, every time we are about to embark on a mission, I have some sort of dream about it. The dreams always come true.

Yes, that's what I was thinking! What if this is going to be another failed mission, and the train has to pull us out of there? I'm worried for us, and also for the people of that planet if the dream really presages a disaster.

[ Curufin looks back at her, his own face worried. ]

You had the same dream? That's happened before, that all the passengers who received a dream got the same one. But it doesn't always happen that way. Sometimes it goes by teams, because the teams will be in different areas, so there may be some differences in our viewpoints.

[ That mention of shadows makes him shiver. ] I didn't see any shadow beings like the ones from the aborted mission. But that fiery sky, and the sudden explosion of the jungle? [ He shakes his head. ] That suggests some unknown threat, and it could be anything. A forest fire, fire demons, or maybe a self-destructing planet.

The question, then, is can we stop it?

We won't know, but...I don't like the sound of this.

I don't know if we can stop it. I guess all we can do is gather as much information as we can, as soon as we arrive on that planet. Maybe we can ask the people if they know anything about fires from the sky? Maybe they have magic or technology to counter such a scenario.

But I don't like the sound of this either. It reminds me too much of that aborted mission.

You too? [She seems more... resigned than anything. This is just what ForeSight is, though she's never quite experienced it that way.]

I've never had a ForeSight dream like this. I can't say as I truly mind all that much of that's what it is.

Did you have a dream like that, Selenay? Last night, I mean. [ Foresight! Generator of dreams that will throw you out of your bunk before you're even awake. ]

But you've had other prophetic dreams, in your own world?

If this one turns out to be true, and I expect it will, we may be in trouble.

Something like. Mine was fire. [Not that much more pleasant]

No. Mine was always more a feeling than a vision, but the other ForeSeers have described the dreams to me.

In my experience, that's exactly when ForeSight intrudes itself.

Our dreams were both about fire, then.

Feeling, vision, whatever. Foresight comes in many forms.

[ Heh, this is exactly what Curufin is worried about. ] Most of my flashes of foresight have been about trouble, in my own world, the other worlds I've lived in, and here. [ Sigh. ] We don't have firefighting equipment, and anyway, we don't know if the fire will have a natural or a supernatural source.

... Like the day of that breach, don't forget.

[That hadn't been a mission, but the synchronicity was memorable.]

If anything, I'd bet on it being space debris of some sort. I've seen that sort of thing before.

[ Yeah, that.. definitely doesn't sound pleasant. On the other hand, despite not experiencing these dreams and visions himself, Inigo finds himself slowly getting used to it. ]

Aren't they often like that? I mean, most of the time when I hear people talk about them ahead of missions, they sound.. bad. [ Even when the mission itself turns out pretty much fine! ] Maybe whatever is giving you those dreams is very pessimistic.

[ Inigo shakes his head though, more concerned with something else. ]

Are you alright though?

[ Curufin doesn't sound like he's doing great after all, and who could blame him after witnessing that, even just in a dream? ]

A fair point, though this is an opportunity to effect a change and prevent it altogether, if we can.

Right, the day of the breach. I remember.

Space debris. The only time I've been in space, ever, was during that mission to fight the Empire of Stars. But that at least gives me some perspective. I suppose that if there was enough destruction near enough to a planet, then a huge amount of space junk could fall into that planet's orbit and come down to wreck havoc.

Or conversely, it could be a natural occurrence. If a very large meteor fell, it could light the atmosphere with dark fire as it descended, and then it could ignite the forests and everything else.

I hope so, though on the train so far, the pre-mission visions have never changed the events. Unless you consider that they're at least valuable as forewarnings. Maybe we were a little quicker to respond when things went bad.

[She's heard of both - though it didn't seem like a moon was going to fall on the planet.]

... It seems like we have people with the sheer power behind them to detain such a thing, though. Or even just set it off course, if we arrive in time.

You're right, they are often like that. That is, they warn of dangerous events or of dangerous elements in the mission planet environments. I don't know for sure what is giving me and others these dreams, but if it was the train, I would think that everyone would receive them. As it is, I think it's only the passengers who have some history of prophetic visions. And you may be right about the pessimism. The ability of foresight seems to involve the part of my being that fears that things will always go wrong, that the universe is not constructed to allow events to go unflawed. Maybe it's the same for everybody, visionaries and non-visionaries?

[ He smiles a little, hearing the concern in his friend's voice. ]

I'm all right. I whacked my shoulder when I fell out of my bunk, but I heal fast. By the time we get to the mission planet, the injury won't hinder my sword arm.

And how are you doing, Inigo? It's been a while since we talked.

[ Curufin smiles a little when Nita makes a face. He's always liked her expressions. ]

It could.

[ Don't bet that a moon couldn't fall on the planet. Stranger things have happened on these Voidtrecker missions! ]

People who could ward off falling space junk or a meteor? I really, really hope that we do have such people! Who were you thinking of?

[It would have taken up a lot more of the sky if it was! ... Nita's helped evacuate a world whose moon was falling apart, mind. XD She has her Experience, this time.]

Apart from us wizards - though we'd be pretty much wiped afterwards - I know we've got a few space-faring peoples on board.

[She's thinking specifically of Piccolo, but she wouldn't be surprised if some of the military-types - meaning Zechs and Trowa, and Ple Two if those dream-memories mean anything - had the skills as well.]
