Morning: Day 19 - Audio: Luggage Car - OTA

[ To say that Evie Grimhilde sounded annoyed was the biggest understatement one can make, and she looks about as mad as she sounds, not to mention she feels as though she looks a mess, so this is audio from the vicinity of the luggage car. ]

Miss Custer, if the conductor or whoever is going to make it a habit of putting people in suitcases without warning, you are going to have to find a new place to smoke. It smells like goblin refuse in here, and I’m sure my clothes have picked up the scent. Or just stop smoking all together, vices be damned.

[ ...she’s probably Big Mad if she’s swearing. ]

Harry, mo chridhe. [ She knows several languages so it shouldn’t be too shocking that she knows how to say ‘my heart’ in Scottish Gaelic. And she’s very aware of what she called him and what it implies, but that’s who he is. She knows just how he will have reacted to her disappearance, so reassuring him that it wasn’t her intention and that he was still very important to her and someone she chose gladly was the best idea. And her tone has changed. It’s softer, a fair hint of upset in it, along with sounding apologetic. ]

Where are you? I’m so sorry. We were supposed to meet, and then the conductor called me but then I woke up in a stupid suitcase. I really was looking forward to spending time with you, but...

[ Whatever she goes to say, she’s stopped. And her tone just sounds confused and alarmed. ]

How did I even get in there?

[ A soft inhale and an exhale from Evie and she’s muttering about smelling terrible. Thanks, Miss Custer. She hates it. ]

I’m going to shower and then I’m coming to find you, Harry. How does that sound?

[ With that, she turns off the device and leaves the carriage car, the frown on her face a mix of confusion and anger. It’ll change when she runs into people she knows but for now, she looks pissed. ]

[ He doesn't miss the endearment. It's not his first tongue, but he learned enough of it growing up among everything else. Mostly curses, but enough to get by past that and the fact that she uses it doesn't go unnoticed, and something in his chest clenches at it, even if her return wasn't enough of a shock to begin with.

But it is. Loosens something that's had him in a stranglehold since she disappeared, and really all he wants to do is get to the car she's in, but she holds it up, says she'll find him after, and he can deal with that. Maybe.

He'll be waiting outside the shower, sitting on the floor, back to the wall, like a dog waiting for its owner outside a store. Deal with it? ]

[ Evie is aware he’ll be waiting for her and that makes her hurry as best she can. But she’s sure the scent of cigarettes still clings somehow, even after all of the soap and the shampoo and conditioner are washed away. The clean clothes she brought in sit in a neat pile on the counter nearby, the clothes she woke up in on less a neat stack and more a pile that somehow manages to show her dislike for them, everything kicked into the corner.

She misses the sound of someone else entering the room, and at some point here she will be super grateful the shower curtains are not see through. For now, she’s oblivious. One arm reaches out from behind the shower curtain and grabs the large towel hanging nearby, pulling it into the shower and wrapping it around herself and it’s about that time when she pulls the curtain back and startles, a shout escaping her before she covers her mouth and shuts the shower curtain, peeking around the edge of it and looking at Harry with alarm ]

Harry Hook! Are you kidding me right now?!

[ She’s a little annoyed at him right now, sure. But that’s not really relevant. What’s relevant is he’s in the room with her. Patience isn’t his strong suit. And it shows he’s not mad at her for disappearing so even with how alarming his presence is, she’s glad to see him. ]

Holy Goblin refuse, you scared me just now.

[Now here's a voice he hasn't heard from in awhile.]

Welcome back Evie. Is everything alright?

[Other than the obvious.]

I’m sure they will be. For now, I’m annoyed at a few things.

[ But she’s had a shower by now, and has seen to it that Harry understood her vanishing was not her decision. ]

But I’ll be fine.

[Annoyed, he'd be more than a little annoyed if he disappeared so he can understand.]

Understandable. If you'd like, we can discuss it over dinner and some sewing? I've found a coat that needs some mending, but I would appreciate a little more input on it.

[He really hopes she'll be ok and he trusts her opinion.]

A sewing project? Ignis, you have my full attention.

[ Thats one way to cheer her up. ] Was it worn during the last mission? Is that why it needs mending?

[She can't see it, but he's smiling.]

No, I rather found it before the mission and I could use some help with it. It's a long black coat and I'm going to alter it a bit to put some buttons on there.

[ Good. She likes seeing her friends happy. She thrives on it. ]

Do we have buttons to put on it? Because there are a few costs in the dressing room that could easily be relieved of buttons.

[ Plans rp dismantle clothes may already be in motion by Evie. ]

And there’s no sewing machine on board that I’ve ever seen, so there will be a lot of this done by hand.

[ She is completely unphased by this. She’s done it before. ]

If there are silver ones, those would work best. If not, then if we can find white.

[He was trying to stay away from gold, because that was the king's colour.]

I've mostly sewn by hand, so not having a machine on board will be just fine.

I learned how to hand sew first. For something detailed, I don’t mind taking the time.

Okay. White buttons. Or silver. There are...three coats in there that have those. It’s just a matter of making sure we find the right ones, and that there are enough of them.

Then it sounds like we should make good progress with this project.

[Especially if the two of them get working on this. And Ignis is pleased that Evie is getting right on this. The sooner the better with this particular project.]

That will work. When did you have time to meet up?

[If she had plans, he was definitely going to make sure he could work around them.]

[ He knew, rationally, she was there. Just on the other side of the curtain, and okay, so maybe it wasn't the best idea waiting that close but he needed the reassurance that she wasn't disappearing again.

It was the longest wait of his life, and he wasn't great at waiting to begin with, but she reappeared from the shower and he visibly relaxed, body twisting around and rising from the floor to meet her, and it's only a beat or so later before he's tackling her in a fierce bear hug, nose burrowed against her shoulder. ]

Good. Welcome back.

[ Evie could have bet money that Harry wasn’t going to care that she was just in a towel, so she shoves the curtain aside to meet him in a hug, pressing her face against his neck as her free arm wraps around his shoulder. It was fine, surprisingly. Evie was good with modesty, but right now it didn’t matter. It was a thought in the back of her head that she was just from the shower.

Her main concern was her pirate, her wonderful and ridiculous pirate. Pressing a kiss to the side of his head and closing her eyes, she’s just glad to breathe him in just as they were. She’s quite content to hold him and be held. To just be quiet for a minute or two before speaking. ]

I’m sorry.

[ That she scared him. It wasn’t her fault, but she still felt terrible. ]

You should be.

[ Not that it's her fault; her reappearance proves what everyone said right, so he can't possibly hold her accountable. But it makes the tease easier when he doesn't mean it. He squeezes a little tighter for a couple beats before finally retreating enough to give her a little space. ]

Have a nice holiday, then?

Not really, no. If I’m going to go on any kind of vacation, I’d like you there. And I’d love to remember it. And I’d love it if I didn’t wake up in a suitcase.

[ Her fingers have found their way to the hair on the back of his head, running through it gently. Standing on her tiptoes, she kisses him quickly, her hand still holding her towel in place. ]

Most importantly, I’d just really like it if you had been there, wherever I was.

You don't remember?

[ He'd heard that might be the case, so it's not a huge surprise. Honestly he's not sure which would have been better, remembering or not, but it at least answers a question he'd been wondering. ]

Yeah me too.

[ He returns the kiss eagerly, then retreats to look at her, all his relief practically palpable. ]

You want me to let you get dressed? Not that I'm not enjoying the reunion as is.

I was heading to join you at chores, the conductor called me over the ICP. I went to see him and woke up in a suitcase.

[ Evie really has no idea how to not make that sound nefarious, but there it is. Something that will bug her for a while is how sudden it was to wake up in the luggage car.

Looking down at her towel and then giving Harry a small smile and a nod, she tilts her head to the door. ]

Give me a few minutes. But keep talking to me. Just so I know you’re still there. And so you know I’m still here. Okay?

I might need a couple days to settle back in.

[ And this means time with Harry. Loads of it. People aren't allowed to be surprised that she won't be showing up for chores for her first couple days back. ]

But then we'll definitely work on your sewing project. I'm looking forward to it.

Alright, let me know whenever you're ready.

[He paused.]

Miss Evie? You alright there?

I'll be fine. I'm spending time with Harry for a bit and hoping to settle into my routine again. I was gone for a few days and didn't realize it until he told me.

Ah....yeah. I heard him laying into our esteemed hosts...well. The door, anyway. I am glad you're alright - no injuries?

You did?

[ HOW LOUD AND VIOLENT WERE YOU, HARRY HOOK?! ]

I'm unharmed. The suitcase was, thankfully, on the floor. So there was no fall. Just cramped muscles from being in a small space.

[Well, that was a lot to process.]

Are you okay?

Hopefully, I will be soon. To some degree, at least. Not remembering where I was or how I got into a suitcase is going to bother me for a good, long while.

That sound really awful.

Can I do anything for you?

He was rather....er. Passionate.

[ loud. Veerrrrrry loud ]

'S kinda sweet, how much he worries about you.

But damn a suitcase? That's [ a great idea for pranking the little detective ] terrible! I'm glad you're ok.

I can imagine.

[ Boy, does she ever want to point out that Harry can be extra AF. But she won't. Especially since it's really not as bad as it could be. He can come up with some amazingly...interesting and detailed threats when he wants to. ]

He's pretty amazing.

[ Said very lovingly. And all while being very amused that he was waiting outside the shower. Literally right on the other side of the curtain. ]

It was cramped and uncomfortable. I don't recommend it.

Not that I can think of, no.

How are you settling in? You arrived the same time I did, right?

[ he grins ]

Well, suitcases are pretty small! You don't recall how you got in there?

Okay, well if something comes up...

It's been alright. I have a friend here so that's made it easier, I guess. And yeah.

[ With a not-so-subtle undertone implying that Someone Should Teach Him A Lesson.

But she requests some privacy, or at least a certain level of it, and he nods eagerly enough. ]

Absolutely. I'm not going anywhere, have no fear.

[ With that, she waits for him to leave before shutting the door. As she starts getting dressed, she talks. Speaking loud enough to be heard through the door. ]

If I guessed that you punched the wall to try to get to the conductor, how spot on would I be?

Evie Grimhilde. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miles.

Harry’s easy to notice. He’s the only person on board with a Scottish accent. And he carries a hook. Think pirate hook.
