Lan Zhan and I got a very nice gift and message from the train yesterday for our wedding. It was sweet, and makes me a little more happy to be here. And all the people we've been meeting! New friends!

I thought Corellians were the most frustrating human beings in the galaxy, but not even that smuggler has anything on Earth humans.

I know this isn't entirely train related, but it needed to be said.

This is likely some sort of trap. I imagine the conductor's listening in, wants to know how the test subjects are doing. In that case, I'll tell you what I want you to know.

We're a mess. But I bet you know that already. I'm still going to do everything in my power to keep them safe, because the safer they are, the safer I am.

I am not certain I am literally even equipped to understand what just happened, but I do believe an explanation is in order.

[This is accompanied with a binary request through the ICP system: Are you all right?]

If that was a danger being a Voidtrecker cannot solve, I would prefer to learn its nature sooner than later.

I strongly suspect I am not alone in this.

This is for you, Voidtrecker! WHY DID YOU PULL US OUT OF THERE??? We could have fought those cloud entities and saved the people. Now we've left them to die or be subject to who knows what evil?

We're Void Warriors, we don't run, we fight. [ Of course it's not true that Curufin has never run from a fight in his life, but he wouldn't have run from this one! ]

Everyone else originally assigned to this room has disappeared. I've checked the rosters outside the doors, and every other room on this train has one vacancy at most.

Not that I mind having some privacy for once. I haven't slept this well since this started. But I'm beginning to wonder if this means I'm the next to go. And that's concerning, to say the least.

I should tell Yugi. I don't want any part of whatever zombie-brain nonsense the train does to whoever it expels.

[Nita can't bring herself to use her Manual for this one, so for once she's specifically venting to the train instead before falling into bed.]

I hate being cut off like this. Whatever's doing it, whatever's holding the spiritual powers of this world hostage, we have to stop it.

... I had times like this in Nautilus, even times where I forgot I was a wizard, but none of those were Nautilus' fault!

You're not knocked out by whatever's wrong here too, are you? I mean, are those visions we see yours?

[There's an awkward silence, before she backtracks and says:]

I know I can't hear you, especially now, but the worst thing I've experienced when it comes to this is being alone.

And we're not. And you're not, either. Just remember that, okay? We have to remember that...

[This is part one of Webmind's reaction to A-Qing's death.]

I understand there was a death on the train this past night. I can only assume the victim is alive now because of their Safety Control Apparatus.

I have to question what purpose such a function serves. True, on missions, Voidtreckers are expected to be in danger - but then, why not rescue them from peril when they are on the train? Do those strange shadows present a greater threat to our existence - necessitating the use of an evacuation procedure even beyond that normally enabled in the SCAs - than our fellow passengers?

My worry is that, since the person came back to life, the murderer will simply strike again whenever the mood takes them.

I cannot condone that sort of behavior, even passively. We - all Voidtreckers - should be able to do something.

Guess I should probably make use of this, huh? Didn't get much chance to before now; what with the mission and learning my way around, the first two weeks here were kinda crazy. And it's been awhile since I had any kind of 'journal' type thing to make entries in.

Still, all in all being here hasn't been too bad. Long as you don't mind being randomly hauled across time and space, that is. Jury's still out on what I think of the train itself, but most of the people I've met here are alright.

Could do with some sea-salt ice cream bars at the next supply restock though, if whoever's running the train wants to take grocery list ideas from this.

[personal profile] voidtreckernpcs 2020-06-14 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[The voice is female, and though definitely an adult she does not sound very old, late teens or early twenties as a basic human equivalent.]

Junior Blue lead Vian Tail here. On day twelve of day, month Sier... [There's a muffled second voice, too faint for words to be heard but Vian laughs.]

Fine. Month of Starshine. Day twelve of the month of Starshine, happy? [More muffled words.] You going to let me make my report?

[There's silence, just the faint noise that means the recording is still going.]

Had my first catastrophe mission today. Jarla says I got lucky with four months of normal missions before we had one. They didn't even tell me until after we were done. I guess on the face of it they aren't much different, either everything has gone to... gone wrong and we are there to fix it, help people, bring it all to rights again. Or it's is about to go even more wrong, the whole world hangs in the balance and we are the only ones...

It's completely different. When you put it like that, but it didn't feel different. I'm sort of glad I didn't know. Blue teams job didn't change. Evacuate the coastal villages. Doesn't matter if it was because of the storm sprites we thought we were fighting, or the fact that an all powerful sea god was going to use the souls of the drowned villagers to raise a flood to destroy the whole continent...

We succeeded by the way. [She laughs again, a tinkling sound.] I maybe should have started by that. A whole world lives to fight another day because of the Voidtreckers. [Another muffled voice, laughter.]

Yeah of course I'm proud of myself. And my team. I'm not going to hide that. You guys have utterly ruined my report.

Vian Tail, signing off!

[Crowley is in the greenhouse, having secured himself a plot and planted a few bulbs and seeds. In a small starter pot sitting above the soil, he's propagated a cutting of a rubber plant, and has brought it forward to show it off to the ICP.]

Say hello, Aldric. You're going to grow gorgeously big and green, aren't you? We need to show these other plants what we're made of.

[Crowley's voice is rather firm as he speaks, and as he sets 'Aldric' back down, his hand waves impatiently at the other seeds he's planted.]

You'll get names when you've shown me you're worthy of them.

This mission has been deemed a success; we have prevented the immediate destruction of the Burrower, a being viewed as a god by one of the races of the planet Terra, as well as the slaughter of many lifeforms also on this planet.

The scientists missing on this planet were reported as safely retrieved, or in the process thereof, before Orange and Red Teams had even fully left.

This planet's surface condition is still poor, but perhaps the Terrans and Gry will work together to fix that themselves.

Several of our own are missing but, perhaps, not dead; we will have to make inquiries when each of them return, if they do not simply leave upon the next platform stop.

[Webmind's tone changes from largely clinical to... something not easily categorizable.]

I do not know where you went while we were busy, but I hope your efforts were as fruitful as our own.

[Tentative well-wishes? Tentative well-wishes.]
