[She waves when the camera comes on, immediately pointing downwards to indicate where the subtitles will be as she signs. Her hands start to move, gently, signing her words. The text appears, as it does, at the bottom.]

Greetings, fellow travellers. Or prisoners. Not really sure which we are. Possibly both.

[A slight pause]

I mean, this also seems fairly close to a penal battalion, but that's more philosophy than I'd like today. But in any event, I'm General Amaya, soldier of Katolis, for those who don't know me. As a Knight of the Realm, I'm meant to serve on the front line, as you may have guessed. Which is significantly more difficult without my armor.

[She gestures at tunic she's wearing, which she'd picked up on the last mission.]

And I'm going to apologize in advance for my...take charge nature during missions. I promise that I do know what I'm doing, but I also promise I'll listen to reason when I'm dealing with things I don't know. Which, around here, is a lot.

[She offers a kind smile, pulling her shield and sword into view.]

And while these are my main offence and defence - I'm feeling pretty naked out there - is there anybody on board who can forge armour? I'm not sure how I could repay the favour right now, but it'd definitely be at least a few owed.

I do not know how to forge armour, but I do know how to enchant it if you would like my aid in that area.

[She pauses for a moment before remembering the points she has.]

If you have enough points, perhaps you could ask the train for your armour back? There is an on-board shop where many of us can order things from home. It is how I obtained my bow back.

[She holds up a fancy looking bow, having been in the gym earlier practicing.]

[ Oh, hey there. ]

See Q'uila! [ He'll always take the chance to promote Q'uila. ] You know where the lab car is? She's got a sign where she works. Uh, it's...

[ Tidus looks off-screen, then happens to hold up a notebook, scribbling it and turning it around. The name 'Q'uila' is written. ]

Like this? Or- we have this one-suit armour thing, you can try out.

[ Tidus is very good at explaining things. ]

[She shook her head, hands moving.]

Brand new. Not nearly enough, especially for quality.

[That leaves her in a...bit of a mystery, really, because 'one-suit armour thing' isn't the best description she's ever heard. But she nods, hands moving in reply.]

I can read lips - but I do not know this Q'uila.

There's a machine shop in the lab car.

[Someone, apparently, doesn't need subtitles! Someone is also absolutely thrilled to realize that he actually understands her signing, unlike when Prisoner was on the train.]

Q'uila-- [Fingerspelled.] --works there, and I know she can make armor. I could probably shape the pieces if you could describe them well enough for me, but she actually knows what she's doing, so I'd start with her.

I don't think we've met, general? My name's Devero. [Not fingerspelled; his name sign, by the way, happens to be the sign for 'sarge', but with his hand held in the shape of the letter 'D'.]

[ Wow, thanks for subtitles here, screen. He blinks from looking between them, and then back to the person's face. ]

That's okay! She's got some posters up, so it won't be weird if you went to the room she hangs out in or called her up. [ Should he describe her? Why not- ] She's got pointy ears on top of her head, pink hair, wears glasses... she stands out. You won't miss her.

[ Not if Amaya's looking for her. ]

Raptor pops on, then bow, "Um, if you have the ceramics and spandex I can build a suit. I think there is even the right tools to get it properly powered. I just don't have the raw materials here, and I'm pretty sure if I started taking the train apart people would get angry."

[She listens to all that, and has...no idea what to make out of either of it. She frowns.]

Ceramics...like the cups? And how do you...power them?

[She nods, her look thankful.]

Thank you. That helps a lot. She's not an elf by any chance?

[And she, in turn, is thrilled to just sign back in return.]

Second time she's been recommended, that's good enough for me. And no, we haven't - but we're fixing that now, aren't we?

Elf? No - elf ears point that way, right? [ He moves his forefingers to point backwards. ]

Her ears are...up here. This way!

[ And now, witness: Cat ears, pointed up! ]

"No, like my skin. She pokes her face a bit at that. Stronger than steel and less prone to melting..."

She then stops and flails, then bows, "You wanted a normal old knights and dragons suit, didn't you? Not powered armor. If you get me the steel I can hammer that out, that's easy. I'm sorry, I'm so used to dealing with powered armor and such for starship repair."

She shrugged, extensively.

Do I? I'm a little bit limited by not knowing the technology - just...how badly outdated am I? Compared to that

[She nods. Ok, new species, interesting. Elves she knows well enough.]

Ah, ok. Thank you.

Sure are! I'm just glad I can understand you-- I couldn't understand the last person on the train who signed at all except for fingerspelling. That was fun.

[The very put-on expression on his face and slump to his shoulders makes it clear he's being sarcastic.]

No problem! [ Well that was easy enough. ]

If you wanna check those suits out later, come find me. Or they're in the amoury. Not flashy, but... you can wear something over it?

[She nods.]

Sounds like a plan - someone experienced nearby helps with sorting the details.

I can imagine. So where and why did you pick up your skills?

Yeah! I mean, we haven't got a whole lot, but we try. If you need someone to go through what we have, I don't mind helping. Or there's Roland - he's more professional and part of Purple too.

I can tell him to come meet you! He loves the details.

[ There's some fondness said with that. Teasing, but in a respecting way. ]

[She nodded.]

I'd appreciate that.

No prob! Alright, see you around later - if you don't find Roland in the armoury, try the library next door first! Probably be better for waiting in.

[ And with that, Tidus will leave to tell the other guy the great news of being on the beck and call of a new Purple. Isn't that the type of life he loves anyway? ]

Well, everyone learns the basics in creche, where I come from. But I had a-- [He pauses for a moment, frowning slightly as he considers how to phrase this.] --a real close mate in the Guard who was Deaf. I wanted to be able to talk to him without transcription-- [That sign might not be familiar to her, as the gesture includes the electronic thing he's wearing on his face.] --getting in the way, so I learned more.

[There's a bit of a frown and an understanding nod, being new without any points and unable to get things from home was certainly a challenge.]

I understand that, I wasn't able to obtain my bow for a while. A knight without her armour is like an archer without her bow.

I see others have pointed you to Q'uila, but should you need it to be magicked, please do not hesitate to ask!

[She moves a finger to make a couple of runes appear, to show what she meant.]

[Good comparison. She nods in agreement, but watches the runes in fascination]

[That draws a nod - and she's heard of transcription, though in a different sense from what he means.]

I'm thrilled to hear anybody thinks like that - it's eminently useful in a number of ways.
