The One in your universe may not be obsessed with obedience, but Eru in my universe certainly was. The beginning of the breach between them was a vast choral event in which Melkor, the Lone Power, tried to sing his own song instead of simply backing up the others. Eru was furious. And as for death, Eru created that, and Melkor used it for evil.
