The laugh...helps, honestly. A laugh, and toothless mild dramatics to ease the situation, and...it all feels like home. The most he manages is a huff - it would be a laugh if he had any more energy to spare - and a soft "ohhhh nooooo" in that same dramatic tone. They're on the same page. He gets this. It's good.
